n-42 Carburated Head

I have never seen a datsun head drilled for injectors. They all use the manifold to mount the injectors.

The N42 heads came out on the 75 - 76 280Z in the 48 states without catalytic convertor and using leaded fuel.

As far as I know it only came with EFI. A po may have changed it over to SU's

I think I misunderstood the seller. I will ask him what he meant by "a carburated n-42 head". It 's been a little while since I saw the piece in question and I cannot remember any details.

As always, thanks for the input...

BTW Zedyone, sweet engine and compartment....

The N-42 heads have the threaded holes for mounting carburetors AND the notch in the intake for the injector tip. The injectors are mounted in the intake manifold and stick through in to the top of the head's intake port. So you can use EFI or carbs on the N-42 for sure, maybe on the N-47 also, not sure there.

Apparently, in other non-domestic markets carburetors were used for quite a while after EFI was introduced in the states. I think that the big driver for EFI was the emissions regulations in the US market.

I've had a couple N42 heads that were cast without the injector reliefs and were drilled only for carb manifolds. Don't know what Nissan application there were used on but both came on N42 blocks.

I was back at the owners place today and this is the head it was, an N-42 w/out the injector reliefs.

I still didn't buy it ha!

I am currently about halfway done with my N42/L28 build - 10:5.1 flat top, with SU's. my N42 has no capacity to accept FI. I will upload pics when I get home.

My build - motor above, .280 cam

5 speed from 80 ZX

4.11 R180 open

MSA suspension (tokico) 1" drop, 3/4" sway bars

I am hoping for around 200HP, hoping for stinkin quick more than 200HP.
