Posted December 11, 201212 yr comment_408970 Hello, I was under the impression that n-42 heads were only used on 75-76 280z's with EFI. I came across one which was not drilled for injectors and expressly for use with carburators.Which vehicles were these made for? December 11, 201212 yr comment_408992 I have never seen a datsun head drilled for injectors. They all use the manifold to mount the injectors. The N42 heads came out on the 75 - 76 280Z in the 48 states without catalytic convertor and using leaded fuel.As far as I know it only came with EFI. A po may have changed it over to SU's Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45145-n-42-carburated-head/#findComment-408992 Share on other sites
December 11, 201212 yr comment_408996 I am currently running an N42 head with carbs. I think they were drilled for both a carb and a FI manifold. N42 head right there. December 11, 201212 yr Author comment_408998 I think I misunderstood the seller. I will ask him what he meant by "a carburated n-42 head". It 's been a little while since I saw the piece in question and I cannot remember any details. As always, thanks for the input...BTW Zedyone, sweet engine and compartment.... December 11, 201212 yr comment_409003 The N-42 heads have the threaded holes for mounting carburetors AND the notch in the intake for the injector tip. The injectors are mounted in the intake manifold and stick through in to the top of the head's intake port. So you can use EFI or carbs on the N-42 for sure, maybe on the N-47 also, not sure there.Apparently, in other non-domestic markets carburetors were used for quite a while after EFI was introduced in the states. I think that the big driver for EFI was the emissions regulations in the US market. December 11, 201212 yr comment_409005 I think dhp123166 is talking about intake drilled for injector tips. Maybe the head is modified and filled the injector tips hole for intake port. December 11, 201212 yr comment_409012 I've had a couple N42 heads that were cast without the injector reliefs and were drilled only for carb manifolds. Don't know what Nissan application there were used on but both came on N42 blocks. December 15, 201212 yr comment_409239 The N42 was used in Europe, SA and Australia/NZ with carbies on the 260Z until the 280ZX in 1979. They also used leaded fuel. It could be a import head.
