Posted December 21, 201212 yr comment_409719 OK, I have ordered some reproduction labels for my car and it seems that there are different opinions on the correct label content, background, etc.. :ermm:Norm Murphy after looking at photos of my car said that my under hood stickers were incorrect. I purchased a set from him along with one for inside of my right tool box lid. All three stickers are on either gold chrome or silver chrome:disappoin. I do not remember them being on this type of material. I seem to remember them being on a flat gold and flat silver background. The chrome look makes them hard to read. Which is correct? Content wise the sticker for my tool box from Norm like I said is chrome with black print and has three steps illustrated on tool placement but when I took a look at an extra tool door I have the label is on a flat silver background and has one drawing of the box with the tools properly located in it. This door is off a 4/72 production car my car is 7/72. What is correct??? December 21, 201212 yr comment_409780 Jerry,In my opinion, the source for the most correct reproduction labels are found at Banzai Motorworks. I will admit to being somewhat biased as Mike McGinnis at Banzai does sell a couple of the decals which I reproduced for my car. Those are the mastervac and hazzard switch decals. He is very meticulous and I had to meet his high standards. Take a look at his website www.zzxdatsun.com, look at what he offers, and give him a call. He is extremely knowledgeable and glad to help.FWIWDan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45207-reproduction-labels/#findComment-409780 Share on other sites
December 21, 201212 yr Author comment_409799 Thanks for your input Dan, the labels on my car were purchased from Banzai by Les and Mike is great to deal with. I just purchased a couple of his labels and plan to purchase a complete set to put back for future use. I was just trying to give another vendor the benefit of the doubt on a couple of stickers I purchased from him. They are on a chrome silver and chrome gold background and the lettering is flaking off and the contend is incorrect on one of them. The vendor swears his are correct and will not take them back. I will deal only with Banzai Motorworks in the future. December 22, 201212 yr Author comment_409805 Does anyone have photos of a set of original under hood stickers for the 1972 model 240Z. The vendor I am in dispute with says that the 72's were printed on gold foil (gold chrome) material. Is this correct? I can not remember that being the case. Anyone? December 22, 201212 yr comment_409806 Jerry,I usually withhold an opinion unless I am quite certain about a resources quality, so am glad Mike's goodies have helped you in the past. By the way, Les did an outstanding job on your car. Well worth the wait I am sure. My car was with Pierre-Z for more than three years, results not as good as I had anticipated, but enjoyed more than you can image the fun of making it everything I had wanted in the next 10 year. And, thanks to you, some of your parts helped make it perfect. You are defintely, going to ENJOY THE RIDE!Dan Edited December 22, 201212 yr by AZ-240z Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45207-reproduction-labels/#findComment-409806 Share on other sites

December 22, 201212 yr Author comment_409830 The original under hood decals on my 5/72 are a gold foil. Here is a picture.-MikeMike, I know that they were on a gold background but my question: is the gold a flat gold or a reflective gold chrome? You photo seems to show a flat gold background such as currently reproduced and sold by Banzai Motorworks. I recently bought a set from another well known vendor and when I received them they were on a gold foil (reflective chrome look). When I questioned the vendor he said that for the 72 this is correct and that he was able to get the last of this material from the original manufacturer in Japan. I just don't remember that material. I do remember the color code and the tire cover alignment arrows being on a reflective silver chrome look material. I will try and post a picture today but it is hard to photograph the reflective material.JLP Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45207-reproduction-labels/#findComment-409830 Share on other sites

December 22, 201212 yr comment_409850 Jerry, the photo I posted is what the original decals on a 5/72 car look like. I guess you can decide how '"flat gold or reflective gold chrome" they look to you. None of the reproduction under hood decals I have seen, either gold or silver, (including those from Banzai) look exactly like the originals. I'm not sure if the original materials are no longer available or if people just haven't found the right source to make good reproductions.-Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45207-reproduction-labels/#findComment-409850 Share on other sites
