The body shop finished putting the rear suspension back together and it is rolling again LOL Now the body man is finishing up the bondo work and should be primed by friday...so glad to see the car back in one piece and the end is in sight.

I don't know if this idea works on old hard rubber or not or if the result is as good but when I had my 71 240Z painted back around 1980 someone told me to put thick fishing line under the edge of the rubber between the metal and the rubber to force the edge of the rubber up so paint could get under the rubber. The result was it looked like the the rubber had been removed for painting. I don't know if that would work on the car I have now since the rubber appears to be older but I may find out if I paint it.

Agreed - with that extensive a job - pull the windshield and rear deck lid glass. No matter how it is masked off - it will leave a build up line of paint around the seals - and that will greatly distract from the quality of the finished job. Pay a few bucks extra if you have too - it will be worth it..

FWIW,

Carl B.

A good tip from 'Mikes Z' on putting fishing cord under the rubber lip to raise it when painting.

I have done this and works a treat, and i am very fussy, but don't like unnecesary work.

You DON'T need to pull the glass. Just lift the lip. It will take all of 10 minutes, and the paint can go right under the rubber.

Of course if your rubber is knackered then pull it out and replace it, or you may want to check under there for rust.

Big surprise today when I went to look at the car, it's been painted:D. They did lift the rubber around the windshield and back glass so paint could get under the seals. They tell me that they should about have it back together by friday...can't wait to see it in one piece again...7 months has been along time.

I'm very impressed with this. It appears very straight in the photos.
