Posted January 9, 201312 yr comment_411393 Hello, I am sure this topic has been covered, I searched but came up with nothing, please forgive me.I have seen and I am sure others have seen as well, late '73 240z's with early 260z's (1.74-8.74) styled front bumpers with matching pneumatic mounts. My question is, was there a specific month that this took place, or was it a general swap toward the end of the period based on stocks of '73 front bumpers being depleted? Thanks,Daniel P. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45368-late-73-240z-front-bumpers/ Share on other sites
January 10, 201312 yr comment_411432 I don't recall seeing it.. Every 73 240Z I've seen so far has the same front bumper mounts. There was a difference between the "early" and "late" 74 260Z front bumpers.FWIW,Carl B. January 10, 201312 yr Author comment_411452 Carl,I'm definitely not imagining this. I removed one a coupla years back and there is another waiting for me in hopefully the next few weeks,( I'll try to get pix).I have seen at least 2 late '73 240z's with early 260z (thin 240z style) front bumpers and matching mounts.Your response makes me assume that this was never a planned Nissan program because if anyone would know about it, it would most definitely be you. Thanks,Daniel P. January 10, 201312 yr comment_411469 I have a fairly late 240 ( mfg date 7/ '73 ) and it has the thin bumper, albeit with the 2" filler since it sticks beyond the hood. There are no pneumatic mounts on it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45368-late-73-240z-front-bumpers/#findComment-411469 Share on other sites

There are no pneumatic mounts on it.To clarify; the one I was up close to was a very late (11 or 12 / 73 240z) the other one I have not seen up close yet only at a distance. How do I know if it was from a distance? Simple, the solid rubber bumper guards characteristic of early 260z's matched with 240z style rear bumper and taillights was the giveaway. January 10, 201312 yr comment_411476 The last Datsun 240Z's were built in 08/73. Datsun 260Z's started production in 08/73, by 11/73 or 12/73 you would be looking at a 260Z. Yes the early 260Z's had big rubber blocks on the front bumper.Of course you never know what any previous owner may have done..FWIW,Carl B. Maybe I am approaching this from the wrong angle? How about early 260z's w/ 240z style rear bumpers and taillights? You may be on to something with an owner modification as well. Thanks,Daniel P.
