A/C compressor not in use. Remove Belt?

I have air condition systems in my 2 Z's. I don't want to run them so should the compressor turn or not? Keep them spinning so they want freeze up? Or take the belt off and let them rest until I want two use them. It gets hot down here so I might want them operational someday. Thanks.

Leave the belts on.

Not only leave the belt on, turn the ac on every month at least for a minute or two to circulate the oil and not dry out the seals.

Jcb's advice is spot on. Removing the belt on doesnt do much. Only the pulley and it external bearing turns, the compressor will only turn when the magnetic clutch is activated. Running the system once a month will keep the compressor and its shaft seal lubricated.

not to be a broken record but jcb is right. And ill expand on it by saying EVERY AC system should be run once a month, do the same in your house and your wife's new car.
