first Gen Rx7

If I were to buy a 1st gen RX-7, it has to be the GSL-SE (EFI, CLSD, 4-wheel disks, and stiffer suspension). It's a fairly light car with a willing engine, and should get ok fuel economy if driven conservatively.

With that said, I'd never consider it as a first car for a teenager.

I was looking at buying an 83 for my fist car until I found my Z. But Leon is right get him a Z in stead, the cops will be to distracted with the car to even notice what he is doing. I think that is why I have yet to get pulled over ;)

I wouldn't get my kid a Z as a first car either. I'd like to think that I was pretty responsible when I was a teenager but I could only imagine if I had a sports car as my first car. They are just too "provocative". Stupid friends will try to coax you into things, it'll be tempting to drive it faster, to "race", and then there's showing-off for the ladies at school, etc. When the time comes, I see myself getting my kid something slow and boring as a DD. They will find a way to damage the car, no matter what.

On the other hand, father-son projects are awesome and if the kid understands the value of the car by putting his blood and sweat into making it into what it is, then use it to go hit some autocrosses and learn car control. I still don't know if I'd trust a teenager with a sports car, even if they are responsible and mean well. Reasoning and proper critical thinking skills usually don't kick in until at least your 20s.

Well I just keep liking the lines and the simplicity of it all.

It reminds me of what the 240 may have been like if it had never grown up.

I have never owned a rotary, so this car is just always on my mind.

Hey, if the "it's going to be the kid's car" is just a cover to get it by the wife, I'm all for it! LOL

I grew up and drove Z's in Minnesota. Believe me, they just haven't gotten to you yet. I think I was pulled over 10 times in my Z...

Ya I know that there gonna get me soon, just gotten lucky so far.:ermm: And a sure way to make sure that your kids will respect the value of their car is to make them buy it and/or let them pay for any damage that they cause. My parents let me drive their car until my sister got her license and then it was up to me to find buy and maintain a car, all with money I earned. Although, I definitely won't deny the fact that stupid friends can be very persuasive.:)

I got pulled over in mine while in Nevada in 1986 for going 105 mph. (limit was 55 nationally) I produced my idaho drivers license, oregon registration, washington hunting license and california residence. He just shook his head and wrote me a ticket for "Wasting fuel" that set me back five bucks. Told me if I got pulled over again to show the officer the ticket and I would not be cited again. Those were the days...............

I got pulled over in Tennessee back around 1976 driving the 240Z I used to have for doing 77 however I had been going 107 a few moments earlier. I felt justified in failing to mention that. Officer, I know for a fact your speed gun isn't working properly, might want to get that checked... He asked me how fast will that car go? I said the book says it will do over 120 but I have only had it up to 107 (neglected to mention how recent that was).
