February 13, 20169 yr Author comment_486441 By the way the Mustang has not succeed the test @ the RDW, there where some small things to repair: 1 brake hose rear ( to much wear they said ), rear drums brake difference ( I think new shoes or brake cylinder not applying enough force ), and one headlight could not be adjusted. Some small things to do. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45423-my-datsun-240z/?&page=35#findComment-486441 Share on other sites

February 13, 20169 yr comment_486443 Lucky its only litle things. In your capable hands it will be quickly behind you and you wil be on the road. My rear brakes had 18% difference from left to right when I first went in for inspection. After deglazing the drums, new wheel cylinders and porterfield shoes it was 3% and 2% on the two test runs he did. He said that was great for drums. I didn't replace the shoes, because there was plenty of material on them left. I just removed the drums, and inspected the two sides visual with a light, and I can clearly see the left side which shown 1.8 kn on the test, the pad is evenly touching the drum and no glaze, the right side has like 80% glaze and it's touching the drum only in a few places, this side had a reading of 0.8 kn... 1 kn less ! The brake drums do not feel worn out, and the cylinders don't leak, I think it's just a matter of replacing the brake shoes. I can also spot a crack on both sides of the brake shoes, running the entire length of the shoe. They must have overheated at some point in the past ? February 13, 20169 yr comment_486448 Sounds like someone drove it with the handbrake on. Its common with automatics and easy to forget when the handbrake doesn't have a warning buzzer. February 13, 20169 yr comment_486457 That is a beautiful Mustang. My first car was a 1970 Mach 1. It was a different shade of yellow, and had almost identical wheels to what is on your Sportsroof. Loved that car! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45423-my-datsun-240z/?&page=35#findComment-486457 Share on other sites

Hey Chas, I replaced the shoes and the 2 master cylinders, they where old and tired anyway. It was € 120,- for everything parts...  Now tuesday I am going back, and it should pass this time.I tested the brakes with a local garage here who has the same brake testing equipment as the RDW has, and it was okay. So it should be fine.
