Exhaust

I have a 72 240z. I have read in the forums that a good performance increase can be done with the addition of exhaust and headers (this also makes since to replace because after I get done driving my car my girlfriend won't come within a mile of me because of the fumes on my clothes). I was curious what everybody recommends as the best mix of exhaust and headers.

Thanks Frankenstein Z

headers really arent necessary, yet. the reason you smell like a muffler is because you have leaking seals in your car that are allowing the fumes to get inside.

as far as a good system msa sells a mandrel bent system for Z cars for 139 dollars.

a lot of people are pretty happy with that. its a 2,5 inch system.

I would agree with ZMEFLY about the seals.

As far as a good system, I have seen both of the MSA systems. They sell two types... 1st being he 3-2 combo the 2nd being the 6 into 1. I saw both types of these headers on Z's before I purchased one. With that said, the best looking with the most ground clearence is the 6 into 1 in my opinion. I installed a 6 into 1 header and a 8 inch long glasspacked muffler about 6 inches back from the header. I flowed the system with 2.25 inch pipe to the rear of the car and finished it off with a Glasspacked twin tipped setup also sold by MSA. This setup gets rid of the drone associated with the headers and it sounds like the old Aston Martin's or ferrari's.

I too querried this board prior to installing this setup and I have to say it was well worth my time. The setup is great and I really did notice a difference in my performance.

the reason for the smell of exhaust fumes in the car is one the inherent design of the car and two worn out old 25+ year old seals. yes the rubber seals in the engine bay that attach to the firew wall and at the rear of the car in your hatch and at your rear tail lights.
