RoCa Posted January 25, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 25, 2013 Looking forward on buying this Z but would like to know if I'm getting a good price. Can someone please let me know if this Z is a decent price at 2K? Pros: -1975 -Running -Not an eyesore -new head gasket -new water pump -new timing chain -new muffler -new calipers -new brake pads -"turned the rotors" -few things in the interior -has replacement dash (no cracks) -rollbars installed -tags are good till' dec cons -Stutters at about 3000-4000 rpm (mechanic said Air Flow Meter needs to be replaced) -Rust, dents and other body damage (as shown on pics) -original head gasket was blown, fixed. heads were warped, fixed. -fuel gage does not work -missing one wiper -one turn signal not working -small tears in seat -ac does not work -no spare tire -driver side needs weather stripping -passenger door closes and latches but has half inch gap -rollbars installed? Please let me know your opinion. Thanks in advance!
theguppies Posted January 25, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 25, 2013 What are you plans for it? Modding? Restoration? Drive it AS-IS? It would be more clear if you tell us what you plan on doing it with it. IMO, the car is worth <$1k. Any rust on the car will put a dent on your pocket if pay someone else to do it. SteveJ Posted January 25, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 25, 2013 For a California car with a case of tinworm, I would agree with the under $1K.
grannyknot Posted January 25, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 25, 2013 Get those carpets up, you are not going to know what your buying until you find out the extent of the rust.Once you can see the floors start poking around with a screw driver, if the owner doesn't like what you're doingwalk away. ksechler Posted January 25, 2013 Share #6 Posted January 25, 2013 IMHO your concerns are in all the wrong places. The bondo crack and rusthole on the door indicate some serious rust issues that were probably repaired in a shoddy way. The rust in the door frame is very serious. You need to get under that car and see what it looks like. There is probably extensive rust under there. You also need to open the rear hatch and take out the spare to see what's under it (rust). If you are looking for a car to drive for $2K then unfortunately you should look elsewhere. At first glance the car looks nice, but I suspect a basket case. Sorry. Carl Beck Posted January 25, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 25, 2013 I'd agree with ksechler - walk away. Even at $1000.00 -You don't need to buy major problems.. way too many clean Z's in California...keep looking.FWIW,Carl B.
conedodger Posted January 25, 2013 Share #8 Posted January 25, 2013 This is a car that is worth $500 or less if it has a good running L28 and a good shifting 5 speed. Parts. Someone imported that to California or it spent a significant portion of its existence elsewhere...
Zedyone_kenobi Posted January 25, 2013 Share #9 Posted January 25, 2013 for however much rust you see, its the amount you do not see that is scarey!!!
rcb280z Posted January 25, 2013 Share #10 Posted January 25, 2013 What does it look like under the car?, frame rails, floor pans, etc. I agree with everyone. Unless you are into parting out cars I would stay away from it. Plenty of good Z cars out there. Patience is a virtue. Too much to do to make this one right as far as cosmetics. Who knows what it needs mechanically.

I handed a couple hundred to my wife and said "go shopping." Now, she never questions anything I do parts car wise... I kept the engine and transmission and built it up for my other Z.Oh, I agree with Zedy, triple what you see and you will have an idea of just how much rust you're dealing with...
