Posted February 9, 201312 yr comment_414415 This is very disturbing! These are holes on both sides of the car that are rusted completely through. I just found these the other day when I was under the car replacing my oil pressure gauge sensor. I would expect holes like this on a 240z, but these are on my 2005 Altima SE-R!! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45642-check-out-this-rust/ Share on other sites
February 9, 201312 yr comment_414425 Yeiks!! They look like Ohio Rust Holes!! Had them on my 57 Pontiac when I lived in Ashland, Ohio 1963. Then they showed up again on my beautiful 1955 Thunderbird, about five years after I brought it back to Columbus, Ohio from L.A. I wonder if all that white stuff in the pictures could be SALT!!Most likely way past the warranty period too. Any way you look at it - that is a bummer. On the other hand it might present a new opportunity for ZedFindings.Seriously - sorry to see that.Carl B. February 9, 201312 yr Author comment_414440 Yeah Carl, having lived in Ohio, you've dealt with this before. I've done some searching about this issue and it looks like it is pretty widespread, and Nissan isn't really doing anything about it. The rust-through warranty was 60 months. It wasn't rusted through at that age. I'm not really sure when it started. I had never really looked at that section of the floorboards before. This did not happen overnight. This car cost nearly $30K less than 8 years ago. I need to have a talk with my dealer. I have spend a lot of money there over the years, and so have many of my fellow ZROC friends. February 10, 201312 yr comment_414470 Proof positive of why they call the area the "Rust Belt".E Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45642-check-out-this-rust/#findComment-414470 Share on other sites
February 10, 201312 yr Author comment_414479 I will agree that I live in the rust belt, but it is troubling that this is happening only to my '05 Altima. I have a '95 Ford Taurus with no rust whatsoever, and a '98 Ford F-150 with some rust, but no "holes" like this, and neither of those cars ever see the inside of my garage. I need to take a careful look at my wife's '08 Altima which shares the garage with the 240z. A google search reveals that there are a lot of complaints about rusted-out floorboards on this generation Altima. It's a shame. I really like this car.
