judging criteria

A few months ago I attended znationals outside Atlata ,Ga with my 71 240z. Iwas excited when I won peoples choice award for 1970-1989 cars. However in the judged class they only announced first place winners, which was not me. My question is , what criteria do they use for judging. I have been involved with other marques in the past , having participated in Concours competitions. This z event was definately not judged like a concour, but i have no clue as to what they are looking for. Is it originality?, condition?, individual taste?. I tried to get Judging sheets after the event but had no luck. Any suggestions or answers?

I didn't go to ZNationals. Did they say they were using the ZCCA criteria?

To be honest, I don't get worried about judging. If you look at the 73 at the top of my blog, it took home a 3rd place trophy looking exactly the way it did. LOL

It does help to have only 4 cars in the class and have the 4th be a rust bucket. :)

If you would like, I can send a message to Chad at Z1 to see what I can dig up.

To answer the above post ,I don't think cleanliness was a criteria. I say that because I am compulsive about detailing, including under the car ,suspension etc. They did not mention anything about ZCCA criteria, but I do not know if it was used.In response to not caring about the judging ,that is just not in my character. If i am entered in something i want to know what i need to do to improve/win.

Z1s Judges set their own guidelines, and have not published any I have seen, in participating in their shows in the past, then they seemed to have no real hard and fast criteria, as indicated by watching the Judges go over each car. They had no judging sheets, no pad of paper, nothing but a pair of eyes that did not follow the same paths over cars. From the outside it looked looked to be setup to support keeping the Judges decision is final.

In a show like that, winning is not about being prepared, because, with no guidelines, how can you be sure what you are taking care of is what they will be judging? I have not been in two years because of scheduling conflicts, so that may well have changed, but two years ago, there was no visible criteria or guideline being used. As a ZCCA judge, I had volunteered to help several months out, and that offer was treated to a Japanese Inspection...

I will say they did not seem to count off for body work issues showing up-one of the cars that won had several obvious and highly visible cracks and body work issues from shrinking filler, and several cars in its class would have outscored it in a ZCCA judging. I did suggest that they publish some judging criteria so people could be on an even footing...but is is their show and still a great deal of fun!

That was my take on the situation. It was my first Zcar event. Based on what you are saying their approach is not typical of other events. Again my prev experiance with other makes was with detailed judging sheets with specific comments for deductions. Are there z events that use more detailed judging?

This year Zdayz will be a judged event-and thought they have not announced it, they are likely to use ZCCA rules or at least some variation thereof. Obviously ZCCA rules are used at ZCon, and at many local Z shows, but it is up to each show what to do... In most shows judging is an afterthought, so bling or friends win, but when you go to enter a show, always ask if they have a judging guide-and offer to be a judge. That way you will get the best information for choosing to enter or planning to win.
