Posted February 13, 201312 yr comment_414867 Ok guys, My neighbor has a 72 sitting in his back yard that I been wanting to check out/buy, but I know he won't sell it, as his roommate tells me how they think its worth alot of money and he won't sell it etc.. But the roommate told me of another Z sitting in the garage across the street. I have never noticed (well I don't go around looking in people's yards.) and sure enough, I saw it. Sorry I know the picture sucks, I didn't want to look like I'm scooping out the house, and these houses are fenced off, as it is a rural area. What can you assume the year is by the rear bumper? btw here is the one in my nextdoor neighbor's yard that I'm sure is a 72 https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/390430_10151100167833557_898930062_n.jpg http://i27.tinypic.com/288thlf.jpg I know these cars would be expensive if they never took care of the registration/non-op them. I wouldn't pay alot either as I could find a better one for more on craigslist, but if they where cheap they would be great. February 13, 201312 yr comment_414872 Hmm... it doesn't have the big bumpers, so, it's not a late model car. And it doesn't have the vents underneath the hatch glass, so it's not a rare early car. Judging by the bumper, it's probably a '71, '72, or '73. Then again, it could be a late model car that someone replaced the bumpers. Why don't you knock on the door and ask? m Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45688-guess-the-year-of-the-z-in-this-photo/#findComment-414872 Share on other sites
February 13, 201312 yr comment_414898 I am with Mike. Its not a series one based on the lack of hatch vents and the B-pillar emblems. It is probably a '71 or '72 since the front bumper is tucked in to the body. The brown one has obviously been sitting awhile. If its a rust free car, mostly complete, and can be had for a good price you might end up with a gem. There are no shortage of stories of cars sitting and with a little work and fluid clean out they start right up. Keep us posted on it! February 14, 201312 yr comment_415014 Me too, I don't like to even see them like that. At least this one has a partial roof over it. The back part might be getting a little rain but the rear hatch area is easier to fix I think? I will send that guy a car cover anonymously with instructions it is to be used only on a nearby Z. February 15, 201312 yr comment_415088 You need to get that car out of there before the garage falls down on it. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45688-guess-the-year-of-the-z-in-this-photo/#findComment-415088 Share on other sites
February 16, 201312 yr Author comment_415124 ok guys, I live in california, so potential rust would be at least minimum, though the brown next door car I can see surface rust on the roof. He won't sell it.Now today I road my bike by the house with the Z in the garage, saw a guy about to walk his dog, so I asked about the garage Z. he said it belongs to a relative, and its not for sale. I than proceeded on my way around the block to continue my bike ride. Now of course, it could always be a matter of catching another member of the household and asking again. Who knows. But from the sounds of being a "relative" tends to tell me that it is somebody that does not live there, hence it could not be up to them.So far that ends these two options. Road my bike around the neighborhood, spotted an 84-86 z31 300zx, 2 7x's firebirds, 1 7x's camaro, in different yards. The z31 doesn't interest me as much as the s30. February 16, 201312 yr comment_415138 I envy you. I could ride my bike around The Netherlands and probably wouldnt find as much as you did in the couple of streets you scanned. Its just simply a shortage of space. People send them to the crusher and if they have the space to leave them sitting in the backyard, they are exposed to snow and ice every winter and need I say more... February 16, 201312 yr comment_415141 Don't cars drop off the calif dmv computer after 5-7 years? Those cars definately look like they have been sitting a long time and are long gone off the computer.Once they're gone, there is no record of back fees.I find it hard to believe that in the neighborhood of ratty looking garages that people aren't interested inselling their old cars. Maybe they don't think you would offer them much? Throw a dollar figure outthere and see if it interests them.Ok guys, My neighbor has a 72 sitting in his back yard that I been wanting to check out/buy, but I know he won't sell it, as his roommate tells me how they think its worth alot of money and he won't sell it etc..
