an amusing thought..

Since my retrosound stopped working, I've had a lot more time to think while driving. Today, that led to a little thought I wanted to share with you folks. This year, my Z turned 40 - which is a kind of mind blowing number for me, being only 19 myself. When I'm the age of some of our older members - it'll be an astonishing 80 years old and if I'm lucky - still on the road. Here's to our cars perhaps seeing their 100th birthdays, someday? Boy, thats a long time.

There's a lot of model T's around that will be turning 100 soon (and some doing 120 mph in the 1/4 mile) so maybe. Maybe the 350 and 370 Z's will be cool old rat rod for teenagers to fix up 40 years from now. Hate to think how much gas will cost. Hate to think how much it costs now. Maybe back yard mechanics will be converting them to hydrogen or some other fuel. Read somewhere that carbs work better than F.I. for that - special cams and headwork are required to prevent backfiring.

Speaking on behalf of "some of our older members", let me say that as long as we have young whippersnappers like you interested in Zs, there is no doubt our cars will reach the 100 year milestone. And now, back to my nap. ;)

Haha, we'll so our best!

When I get too old to drive my Z, say around age 110 I will use it to take naps in.:)

I'm considering being buried in mine ;)

The 370z will be a vintage Japanese sports car! Gas here has come down a bit, but still pretty high. Tesla makes an all electric roadster that keeps up with a Corvette and goes a few hundred miles on a charge - not too shabby looking, either. Perhaps one day we'll see electric conversions on Zs, too. I just hate to think how much harder it'll be to get parts then. Best get stocking up now, and hope MSA sticks around!

I have a dream of converting my Z eventually to electric but not with the technology we have so far. I am thinking that electric power would be lower maintenance? Maybe better parts interchangeability with other car models? I really like the L24 that I have now for the time being.

Yeah. The technology isnt ready, but its close. But I agree, the l24 serves me well enough.

Electric Z's

GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

Hahahaha. Until my motor meets its doom, I dont plan on swapping it. Never driven an electric car, but im sure they sound weak. (I did drive a prius once though and it supports my theory). 110,000 miles (at least) and still kicking. Albeit leaking occasional fluid.

They had a demo electric small pickup truck where I used to work for a while. It was strange because it had a clutch and I couldn't tell after hitting the "gas" when to let up on the clutch because I couldn't hear the motor. It may have been waiting for the clutch to engage before turning on the motor. I think they should make electric cars sound like a gas engine to make them more drivable at least starting off the line.

Someone used to make a radio transmitter plug thingy for the cigarette lighter that makes a very small engine sound like a drag strip engine by sensing engine RPM and sending the sound of a more powerful engine at that RPM through the radio speakers when the radio is tuned to the plugin thingy. Ha!

This site has an electric z and I'm pretty sure that I saw one somewhere else too. Main

But personally I think that no mater how fast they can move they still aren't going to be near as fun as a regular old combustion engine, an thats the way my z will stay till the day I die. They are just too quiet an i like to hear the car while I'm driving, so if electric ever does become standard on new cars then I'll pry have something like Mike was talkin about in mine.:P
