Posted February 19, 201312 yr comment_415450 How good is the 240 emergency brake supposed to be? Wondering if mine is shot. Tried to break the rear end loose ala Paul Walker at the parking structure in Tokyo Drift but no dice. It's OK for parking on a hill and will eventually bring the car to a stop but that's about it. Haven't inspected the rear brakes. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45752-emergency-brake-performance/ Share on other sites
February 19, 201312 yr comment_415477 If it will hold the car on a hill, then it is pretty good. Thats good enough for me as we consider it a parking brake down here.Yanking the handle and trying to lock up the rear wheels will result in cable stretch. February 20, 201312 yr Author comment_415523 Thanks, cable stretch sounds bad so guess I'll give up on that idea. Remember driving my mother's VW bug with one hand on the emergency brake, it broke out the rear end really easily especially on dirt. Sorry mom .... February 20, 201312 yr comment_415524 I have a new (repro) cable, and carefully rebuilt rear brakes with new drums. Even so, I doubt that I could break the rear wheels loose. February 20, 201312 yr comment_415528 A flashback to one of my former lives when I used a handbrake turn on a very tight 180 degree turn to win an autocross on the grounds of the State Fair of Texas. February 20, 201312 yr comment_415537 But do remember that even if everything is new and good, it won't be all that powerful. It's worth noting that the correct name for it is not "emergency" or "hand" brake, but "parking brake". It was designed for use when parked. Just that, nothing more.
