Striking Rod

Looks like any 5 speed from late 76 to 83 will work. The lever on the rod probably changed in 80 though, when they added the reverse check sleeve. Datsun 280Z Transmission Control Lever & Fork (5 Speed-FS5W71B) (From Aug.-'76)

Courtesyparts.com shows new ones for about $50. ROD-STRIKI :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com

thanks zed.

Since Nissan just stopped making that part, Courtesyparts.com and all of the others no longer offer it.

I cut the rod when I couldn't remove the striking lever pin out think that I could always buy a new one (I had the transmission out to change the clutch but kept going to replace all of the transmission seals). I didn't realize the part was discontinued until after I cut it.

I tried to weld my old rod together but it failed (I am a beginner welder) after about 20 miles after I reinstalled the tranny.

Now I am trying to find a used one.

They show it as available but if you've checked...

Funny, when I took pictures the other day for this thread - http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/engine-drivetrain-s30/48693-shifter-return-spring.html - I spent some time myself trying to figure out how to remove the pin. Ended up using an aluminum rod stuck through the reverse check sleeve hole to drive it out.

I'm not really in to selling or shipping parts myself but there's a member here called borini63who sells a lot of parts. Might be worth a note. He posts often on zcar.com and hybridz.org also. Seems fair and reasonable from what I've seen.

This is the remains of a scrapping of a dead late 5speed about 2 years ago. I salvaged the shifter ears to design/test short shifters, so had to take that nasty pin out to get the shaft out. Since this thread got posted I've thinking "dang I know I kept the ears part, but I must of tossed that shaft, didn't I??" I finally went to look, and guess what I found!!!

That and I have more Z bits laying around than I know what to do with....
