Posted February 6, 200322 yr comment_25795 Hi,I have a 72 240. I was at a car show here recently and met a couple of guys who tell me the A/C unit in my car won't cool it. I live in Houston, and it gets very hot here in the summer. The car at show had been fitted with a later model compressor, condenser, evaporator, and I think blower motor from a 280. The comp. was located on the bottom of the engine on the driver's side. Does anyone know what year parts are used for this? I want the car to cool. I am restoring the car, and currently have the engine out.Thanks. George Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4590-ac-swap/ Share on other sites
March 26, 200322 yr comment_31474 Geo57:The swap can be done (280Z system into 240z), but it's one of the tougher swaps that you would do. The 280 unit will fit under the dash opening on the 240 - but with zero extra space. If you decide to do it, then make certain that you have all of the parts including the hardware and the wiring harness. Also, be ready to cut some holes in your firewall (the most painful part of the whole swap) due to the fact that the A/C lines and the heater hoses are in different spots and to drill holes for new unit mounting bracket holes. Finally, to make the swap look right, you have to fab a new face plate to cover over the front of the dash.My 240 had the dealer aftermarket system when I got it, but instead of doing the easier thing and fixing it, I went ahead and dove into this barrel of monkeys. Now that I've gotten it finished, I think that I should've passed on it. :stupid: Oh well. Live and learn, I guess?Dat240zg Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4590-ac-swap/#findComment-31474 Share on other sites
