I'm repairing my panel ( cracks, holes, paint, etc. ) Plastex worked really well on cracks and holes. It's sandable. Apparently the whole piece was chromed, then the black was put on. I sanded the whole thing with 80 grit sandpaper. It made the chrome look really nice.post-18844-14150823170872_thumb.jpg No scratches at all. The pics. don't show how good it actually looks. The sandpaper took the black off the peaks of the texture and left black in the valleys, on the textured section. I think it looks pretty nice that way. I also used the sharp edge of a small screw driver to get paint off. That didn't scratch the chrome either. Some sections will need chrome, but I think it looks good and I didn't polish or do anything else.

You use 80 grit paper on your control panel? I'm surprised there is any finish left at all?
