I was there to drive a AA/GT Camaro (green) race car and also be a backup driver on the Mancuso-Greenwood AA/GT Corvette. I worked at Motor Sport Research in Des Plaines, IL who was the race shop that built the 427 CID engine for Mancuso and this Greenwood Corvette. Leaving Chicago we got caught in a blinding snow storm and had to follow a snow plow just to make our way via the back roads to Indianapolis, IN in order to rejoin the Interstate. We stopped in at Disney World (Orlando) for a visit there on a cold and rainy day. No lines anywhere on any of the rides on a lousy day in late January. LOts of interesting classic race footage shot by Dave Fyhrie around the pits and garages of the Speedway with cameo appearances by several famous drivers including: Paul Newman,Sam Posey (interviewed by Dave), Hurley Haywood (winner), Rick Mancuso, John Greenwood, Paul DiPerro and lots of others. I'll add more data later. Enjoy a real classic video. BUZZ" Here are some cool 8mm film from BUZZ bow tie guy from windy city. First one starts at about 7 min in unless you want to see road trip. March 10, 201312 yr Author comment_417415 Buzz Fyhrie - Racing Sports CarsHe did drive a datsun at some point."Buzz FyhrieI worked with Rick Mancuso in 1977 when he took over control of the #76 from the Greenwoods right after the Sebring Race. At the time I also worked for Motor Sport Research an engine builder & speed shop in Des Plaines, IL. (Later became Pro Motor Engineering which moved to Moorsville, NC and builds NASCAR engines). We built the engines for the same car for the 1977 season including the 24 Hours of Daytona, Sebring, Elkhart June Sprints, Twin Trans-Am at Elkhart & Watkins Glen IMSA 6 Hr. I drove the car at the June Sprints for the first time, then at the Elkhart Lake Road America SCCA Twin Trans Am Races where I finished 6th OA in the first Race on Saturday and then DNF'd with a broken pinion gear in the second T/A race on Sunday. I also drove the car at Watkins Glen with Paul Depirro. In the Spring of 1977 I completely disassembled the car right down to the last nut & bolt after we took control and then rebuilt it prior to the 1977 Elkhart Lake Road America June Sprints. At the June Sprints I started third behind the 917-10 of Randolph Townsend and Jerry Hansen's Can-Am Lola(?). I passed them both right at the start but eventually lost the lead and then several laps later blew the MSR motor at 170 MPH on the front straight. A big event!"http://www.greenwoodcorvettes.com/Profile.html Edited March 10, 201312 yr by black gold man Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/45982-daytona-sebring-and-pontiac-mi-1977-8mm-film/#findComment-417415 Share on other sites
