Has anyone put an IPOD connection into a 240z and where did you put it ?

I have a Sony radio that has a pop-out front. The iPod lives inside. In fact, I never take it out except to update it.

I wanted to maintain an original look inside my '70 to the extent possible, but also use my iPod for most of my music. I did some digging and found this thing:

You wire it in-line with your FM antenna, and by flipping the switch you change the input to the radio - either the FM antenna, or your Aux input. Both the switch and the box are hidden in the dash on my car, and only the input line is visible running to my iPod (when it's hooked up). Otherwise, you'd have no idea it's there.

Both good ways to go. My brother used the transmitter for his car that didn't have an input, which worked, but wasn't always super clear. I really like ksbeta's method. If I had an original radio, thats the route I'd go. Its discreet, and would have clear signal while maintaining the original look. I've always had a Retrosound unit in my car, so I just plug right in. It accepts SD, USB, iPod/Phones. Their higher end model is bluetooth capable. Its also the most expensive and intrusive route.

I decided that I couldn't do without my Ipod, so looked for what was the best head unit that would work with the Ipod device. What I found was the Alpine IDA-X100. I didn't get the marine version but there is one if you care to get it. The nice this is that it fit in the original opening and the black face and bezel blend right in my '73 240Z. It comes with a dedicated cord with 32 pin end to plug into the Ipod, or you can run another style MP3 via USB. The cord I ran from the back of the head unit into the area where the fuse block is and that is where my Ipod lives, during the warmer months. There is plenty of room for an Ipod Nano, which is what I have, and lots of cable to pull it out and do any adjusting to the Nano itself or just easily unplug it. I have a red interior, so I set my colors to red, or you can leave them the default blue. The head unit also comes in a silver color as well. I think this has been the best way to run an Ipod and everything is nicely tucked out of the way. It also sounds great!

I put all of the Satellite gear for my unit in the space above the Glovebox on my Z. There is room on the bottom side of the dash and some on the firewall. I put the Sat. Antenna on the Dash Finisher rather than the outside of the car. I still gets a great signal.

Almost any aftermarket radio will have a USB/iPod connection. In fact, most now have Bluetooth...no wires required.
