bhermes Posted March 17, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 17, 2013 I have started other posts on this topic but now getting serious and would like some final input. Paint Scheme - I am looking at the Porsche 911 Atlas Grey Metallic paint color with two light silver racing strips. Just to add a little flare I am thinking about adding a thin orange strip on the inside of each of the white racing strips. Also painting calipers orange and small amount of orange on the rims. I have not really seen the Atlas Grey in person and am a little concerned that it may be darker than I realize. I have attached a photo of what I am looking to create minus the orange accents. Thoughts???? Rims and Tires - No clue here. Currently have 14's but think I need something different. Like most things with cars I know nothing about tires or rims. This is a 76 280z 2+2 and I just purchased a MSA Type II body kit but may not be putting on side skirts. Car does not have bumpers. I guess I am going for a classy look but not really traditional or stock. Purist z owners let me have it. I plan on painting the car at the beginning of summer and doing the job myself. I am taking foolish pride in doing most everything myself on the car. Any thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated.
Oiluj Posted March 17, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 17, 2013 Looks pretty nice. Te orage would be a nice contrast, but for my taste, I'd leave it to just the calipers. Just one guy's opinion. It's your car, so do what you want. Nice thing about paint on things like rims & brakes is that it can be removed...
Jeff G 78 Posted March 18, 2013 Share #3 Posted March 18, 2013 Check out the color that Greg Ira painted Woody's BRE themed racer. It's a really nice gray. For wheels and tires, I'd stay away from 14". The tire selection is really getting slim. You need to decide what type of tires you need. Are you looking for a summer-only performance tire, or a comfy all-season tire? If you just will want want a black and round tire and aren't looking for performance, you can go with a 15" rim, but for performance rubber, a 16 is safer for future tire choices. There is a really nice looking XXR 16x8" rim on ebay. XXR isn't the best quality rim, but they cost less than 1/2 as much as Pansports. 16 16x8 XXR 531 Black Wheels Rims 0 Deep Dish Lip 4x4 5 Datsun 240Z 260z 280z | eBay
bhermes Posted March 18, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted March 18, 2013 Couple notes. Grey looks good in video; however, maybe a little more blue? I struggle because I am slightly color blind. Wheels are close to what I think I am looking for and not staying with the 14's. Not sure if I want the black. If I go to 16x8's is there anything needed to be done to the car for fit. I know absolutely nothing about tires. I see a lot of discussion about offsets? Should I even be considering 17's? Although I do not want to put money in the car where it makes no sense I also do not want to be changing several times either. I am struggling with race look vs something else. It is a 2+2 and I am adding the MSA type II body kit so maybe I am leaning more towards non racing look. Comments? I do realize that ultimately it is a matter of preference but always nice to get opinions and see what else has been done.Thanks.
Willoughby Z Posted March 18, 2013 Share #5 Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) The thing about color representations on uncalibrated computer screens is that it will be different for every viewer. Everyone will perceive colors differently, even on a calibrated monitors. Find a car with that color and judge for yourself. The stripe combo sounds attractive. I, personally, am not partial to bold caliper colors. Sometimes it looks good, other times, meh...In the end, it's your car. Maybe you could find someone to Photoshop your ideas to get a feel for the results. Edited March 18, 2013 by Willoughby Z
