These were in the back of my parts car. I thought they were sss1800 flat tops, but I found a thread where Bruce Palmer referred to the sss1800 carbs as 38mm, and I measured the inlet at 36mm... Can anyone positively identify them? I can take more pictures and measurements if necessary. They were mounted to a pair of E41 intake manifolds with a N30 balance tube. It seems the previous owner intended to use them on the 240z, but I don't know if 36mm carbs could provide enough airflow to an l24 in the higher rpm range. If anyone can answer these questions or provide me with some insights as to what exactly I have and what I might be able do with them I would greatly appreciate it.

I believe the carbs you have are from the HJL38W series. The SSS 1800 is an engine designation, not a carb designation. It's a high performance version of the 1.8 liter engine available on some of the Datsun models of years gone by.

They are a significantly smaller bore than the Z carbs (38mm as opposed to 46mm). I'm not sure you could get enough air through those carbs to feed a 2.4L at WOT. Maybe, but would require some testing.

These would be a good fit for any of the 4 cylinder L motored vehicles. We have run them very successfully on motors up to 2.2 liters. On the l-20b for example the feeling is the 38s will provide more torque down low than say a pair of 46mm carbs would. I put 300,000 miles on a set of them in the first 2 door I had...
