ah, then it's been replaced with an aftermarket grose jet at some point. Some people swear that they're better, some people swear they'll stick up and burn your car down. I don't have any anecdotal or scientific info either way, my car has stock valves and they work fine. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace 'em if you're having problems (either with stock style valves or new grose jets, new is new. I'll wait for one of the old-timers who knows more than me to chime in though)

Stock ones look like this: post-21373-14150823621571_thumb.jpg

When you are at Auto Zone buying floats, buy us some. as many as they'll sell you. There are no new floats, at least that we have been able to source. This would be one of those instances where that one guy sitting on a stash of floats could be everybody's buddy....

I was just dismantling my 72 SU carbs today and notice your float bowl cover isn't "under" the carb body edge as is mine. I had to remove the float assembly by removing the parts above the cover to get it out....

Anyone know why the difference?

I spent some futile hours awhile back looking for floats to no avail. Several outfits shpwed 'em, no one had 'em. One in particular showed they had BOTH carbs for sale AND the floats as the third and final item. Thinking this looked pretty promising I called them only to be met with "we don't carry carburetor items" ..... Well hell Finley then why is your Zcar listing so definitive? Both carbs and floats sure sounds like you might handle carb stuff!!

Twooley amazing how many company websites don't seem to have a periodic cleanup function..... Ours comes to mind..... That Grose Jet section needs to go away but we don't seem to be ablre to Git'er dun!!

Here ends the rant.....

Helps to spin the lid 90 degrees to remove/replace it. Also, if there's fuel in the bowl it helps to drain it.

Thanks - I tried that several times but the inner pieces got caught up. I was able to get it all apart be disassembling all of it then removing the pieces, but not sure if I can get it together in the same way.

Still have my original question - why the difference? They are from a 72 like the OP's, but different.

What do you mean e-tek? The float bowl is locked to the main housing with only 1 nut ( at least that was the case with mine ), it's easier to take it off.

@3ryce: an easy way to check if the float is closing in time, is to put a little hose on the top gasoline feed, and put into your mouth. For testing clean first, and leave the float valve connected to the top of the housing. Then when the hose is in your mouth, blow pressure on it, and move the float bowl gently up, to notice where it's closing, if it works you should not be able to blow anymore air through the hose. The float bowl should not be all horizontal when closed, a little under it.

I'm not sure I see the differance you are talking about etek. I still have to turn mine to get the top off. Oh but about the overflowing problem! Got it fixed and it seems to work fine now. I had to do some adjusting as it was idling to high so I adjusted the adjusting screws. Next is to get that tester you put in from of them to make sure both are pulling the same amount of air. Ill noticed my secondary coil on top of my ignition coil was super super hot. I don't think its supposed to be that hot so I gotta look into that next. I need to make a build thread haha.
