Posted April 13, 201311 yr comment_420469 Hey guys, I suspect this should be on classifieds but that place and I don't get along, plus, I have to be rid of this in a few days and who knows if anyone with interest would see it by then. I have a 71 240 rolling shell, serial 21xxx, with title that is mostly a rolling shell. From the center of the car back it is very sound. From there forward, it is largely metal cheese cloth. I am going to take it to the scrap yard this week, but on the outside chance someone needs the rear of the car, I could save it. Getting it to you of course is the big issue. I hate to see it crushed, someone out there is in dire need of a quarter panel or the rear panel or ?? Any thoughts from anyone on what to do with it? It is by and large stripped, no gas tank, lights, etc. There is a vertical grid deck in good shape, the rear end and struts are still there, the brake parts are gone. This is it's dying last gasp........ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46264-what-to-do-with-a-rolling-shell/ Share on other sites
April 14, 201311 yr comment_420498 I think I am 9 hours' drive from you being down here in Boise. No way for me to scrounge parts off of it with that distance. Thanks for listing the car. April 14, 201311 yr comment_420524 Argh you guys must have such high availability of cars to scrap this! That'd be saved for absolute certainty in Aus Full 1/4 panels down to the dogleg, 1/4 window glass, maybe rear apron... Door skins... What would you want for them? Pain to find that stuff here... Full of bog or pretty decent? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46264-what-to-do-with-a-rolling-shell/#findComment-420524 Share on other sites
April 14, 201311 yr comment_420526 That is a great body in this area... so sad.~ $1,500 to have it transported here (N.S. Canada) sadly.Someone on the East coast of USA should grab it. April 14, 201311 yr comment_420532 Id say do your best to cut out repair panels to sell. I had a guy cut off a weld on kit on a parts car I got, and he said that every single Z he went to look at up north had the spare tire wheel well were rusted out, which is about the only thing I have left to do before scrapping the shell. It would take time, but would be able to get you a little more out of it cash wise, even if you have to sit on the parts for a little while. Just get it down to just bare body, especially if you have a way to get it hauled off, since any part in good enough shape (even some minor pitting) on axle parts should be able to get you a few dollars. April 21, 201311 yr comment_421095 Ohio winters must be way harder on cars than those in Idaho. No road salt there? Anyway, I've seen worse shells get restored. Are the quarter panels and rockers rust free?
