Cool video, I like the owner's attitude. The 240 looked like a handful out there!

I think that guy can hold his head up high. He is a brave soul to let somebody esle thrash his car so thoroughly. I can bet that that guy is going to be buying a big brake kit very soon!

I think he had plenty of brake, just not enough traction. :)

I think the owner of the 240Z got Sandbagged.... Should never have let "NISSAN's" Driver drive the 240Z. Did anyone really expect that a guy sponsored by NISSAN - would let the 370Z come in second to a 40 year old model.

They should have had any current SCCA 240Z racer drive the 240Z. Seat time is important, and the Nissan Driver has had lots of it in the 370Z's...

FWIW,

Carl B.

"Talking" - is what the whole project was about. Getting people to talk about the Z's and more importantly about the 370Z. The problem for Nissan is that as far as I can see - over 90% of the positive comments were about the Datsun 240Z and its Owner.

FWIW,

Like the drifting in the corners of the road course!?

That looses time.

Still- interesting to watch.

Like to know power to weight for each car. What brakes was run on the 240z.

More importantly, I want to know what TIRES both cars had. The 370z appeared to have some VERY aggressive track rubber, where as the 240Z appeard to have summer street radials. I did not even catch the brand.

Tires are everything.

+1 Many years ago I autocrossed on street tires. The next time I used my friend's old Yoko A008Rs. I was relatively 5 seconds a lap faster with the A008Rs. And that was in the rain!

Rear brakes are what let him down. He only has 240SX calipers/Z31 rotors out back. They're barely an adequate match for stock Z front brakes, and he's got the Toyota 4x4/Z31 rotors up front. You can see the front brakes are locking up early and taking the car longer to stop without enough load transfer from the undersized rear brakes. With some bigger rear brakes, I think that would have been a much closer race.

Regardless, I have huge respect for Mr. McSwain. Forty years of automotive evolution, with teams of engineers and millions of dollars of investment were almost wiped out by one guy with a hand built car! Big thumbs up!!!
