Posted April 18, 201311 yr comment_420958 MatesI've decided to replace the clutch in my Z, as well shifting is becoming a bit tricky sometimes and I'm almost postive it slipped last evening. Question is this, would getting a stage one (Exedy) clutch be worth it. I'm don't do any racing of anykind - as well I only have one car and I don't need to break something - but I do have a lead foot. Opinions, suggestions are welcomeSecondly, since I'm doing a clutch I decied that I might as well get the old flywheel machined. What is the best/easiest way to remove the flywheel without using air tools - as I don't have any? April 19, 201311 yr comment_420964 My suggestion would be to first make 100% sure that the clutch is slipping. No point of replacing it if it works fine. April 19, 201311 yr comment_420966 Go with a stock clutch and save some money. You might want to replace the throwout bearing too. I made an L bracket out of 1/8" steel to hold the flywheel while I loosed the bolts. I drilled a hole in the bracket to slide one of the trans-to-engine bolts through it and bolted it to the block. It's not tight on the block. The short part of the L sticks in the flywheel teeth. You can use it to tighten the bolts too.Chuck Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46313-clutches-and-flywheels/#findComment-420966 Share on other sites
April 19, 201311 yr comment_420999 I put this Exedy in mine EXEDY 06009 OEM Replacement Clutch Kit : Amazon.com : AutomotiveIt shifts nice and smooth but I don't know if it's by "design" or not but I can't chirp the tires between 1st & 2nd like my previous 2 Z's would do fairly easily. I have 1500 miles on a good rebuild that runs strong. Maybe it's the cheapest Exedy clutch I could afford at the time? Maybe new tires? Maybe I'm getting old! Whichever, learn from my mistake and spend some extra $$ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46313-clutches-and-flywheels/#findComment-420999 Share on other sites
April 20, 201311 yr Author comment_421050 MatesStore sells two different clutches one that's for the 225mm flywheel and the other for the 240mm one (or so says their computer). I'm assuming the bigger clutch would go with the 2+2 correct? Just making sure before I fork over cash.ThanksJan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46313-clutches-and-flywheels/#findComment-421050 Share on other sites
April 20, 201311 yr comment_421056 Jan, yes, the 240mm clutch is for a 2+2. You will need the 225mm clutch assuming you have a coupe. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46313-clutches-and-flywheels/#findComment-421056 Share on other sites
