Posted April 19, 201311 yr comment_420996 I just installed the Champion 3 Row Radiator, and a new waterpump recently. All seems fine, but I have been noticing coolant leaking along the chassis' side railing (if you will) on the right side. This is below the spark plugs and the fusible links. Around that area I've seen small drops of coolant on the top of the starter, and even on the side of the battery if you can believe that. I will post pictures if needed. April 19, 201311 yr comment_421003 That's where the interior heater hoses connect, it must be leaking somewhere around there, that's above the starter motor Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46315-coolant-leak-in-odd-place/#findComment-421003 Share on other sites

April 20, 201311 yr comment_421017 Fighting the same problem this afternoon, after fixing another leak a few days ago. after a drive I felt wet coolant at the water outlet for the heater, at the back of the head. My heater's bypassed, the hose looped, with a restrictor. The hose was leaking at the clamp. Cut an inch of the hose and clamped it back - no more leak. The clamp had cut the hose. Helped to have a plastic bag over the starter, and the bottom half of a one gallon plastic water bottle sitting on the starter to catch the coolant that comes out. Also helps to have a rubber cap to pop on the hose barb for a minute while cutting the hose. Better to put new hoses, but had to fix the leak fast. April 20, 201311 yr comment_421019 Lower rad hose leaks would blow back to that aream or a pin hole would spray a long way. Someone here posted about tiny holes in the TIG's of those alumimum rads. Get the car hot and get in there with some clean sheets of paper and see if you can catch a tiny spray from somewhere. April 21, 201311 yr Author comment_421139 So far I've found the leak at the heater hose mentioned. I'm hoping that's it. It still puzzles me how some of the coolant got on the side rail though. April 21, 201311 yr comment_421143 I had a coolant leak from between the cylinder head and block at the very back of the cylinder head, right over the starter. Coolant would run down the back of the engine above the starter. It was self-sealing when the engine got warmed up. Only leaked during warm-up and cool-down.
