Love the exhaust system. The web site mentions that the system bolts directly to their Kameari header. Like you, my preference is to continue using the stock exhaust manifold. Does the same system connect to a stock manifold and the Kameari header, or do you need to specify when ordering.

Also, who did you let do the ceramic coating of the exhaust manifold? Did you block the air galley holes? If so, what did you use?

Great work on your car btw.

Hey Captain Obvious. Good observation. Yes those fuel line clamps are only temporary while my Nissan clamps are off being plated. What sucks about those small clamps though is that the original Nissan hose was a little larger in diameter due to it being metric, and right now I have standard fuel hose installed. If I leave it this way the original clamps will work but they will need to be tightened down more and may deform the clamp. Hopefully it will be tight enough. I have some Ferrari fuel hose on order that is allegedly pretty close to the dimensions of the original Nissan hoses.

Gotcha. But to be honest, the original clamps that you have out for plating weren't what I was suggesting you use.

The clamps that I was recommending are the ones Nissan used on the later fuel injected cars (and are still using today). They have a solid band (like the ones you are currently using) and don't cut into the fuel hose like the typical American style "hose clamp" with the slots in the band for the worm gear. They look very similar to what you have on there now, but they are made from stainless instead of zinc plated carbon steel.

In other words, I was recommending the solid band clamps, but just from a different vendor.

However... It sounds like any clamp that isn't year correct is temporary, right? I didn't know you were aiming that closely at originality. Sounds like originality trumps functionality here, and that's great too!

And BTW - Please don't let all this talk about something as mundane as a few tiny hose clamps take away from the beauty of the big picture!

Ah I see. No actually that's not a bad suggestion. I am going for year specific originality but I do appreciate functionality. I'll have to see how the wire band clamps perform. The only other Z I have experience with was a fuel injected 75' 280Z I owned when I was 20. I'm not running an electric fuel pump so I won't be seeing that much pressure.

Yup. We're on the same page now... Comes down to the tradeoff between originality and functionality and that's your call.

So the OD of the original fuel line is larger than what you find today in the parts stores? So much so that you're thinking the original clamps might not fit well? You don't need it for the application, but the hose rated for fuel injection is usually a little larger than the stuff not rated for it. I think they might use an additional layer on the FI stuff due to the pressure and permeability.

In other words, you don't need the FI line for performance, but maybe you could simply use it for the OD? :bulb:

Even the new FI line smaller but not by much. I can get it tight but the with the original wire clamps the screw head touches the threaded plate on those clamps. I also found that there is a slight variation between the size of the clamps even if they are supposed to be the same size clamp so there's a little trial and error. We'll see. I've been hording every clamp I can find in the country so I'll find something that will work, hopefully.

Hi gnosez. Why would you consider this a street mod? Everything is stock except the polished valve cover, exhaust and emissions delete (which I am refinishing on the side if I ever decide to through it back on). The engine hasn't even been rebuilt, just cleaned up. Original 90,000 miles. Not dismissing it just curios because I thought ZCCA judging rules allowed some modifications (even to a greater extent that I'm taking it) and still it would be allowed to enter the stock class?

Thanks,

Matt

It look like you wheels might be a problem in stock.

Any Z can enter the Stock class but why you would is a whole other question. Once you move out of stock and yes those wheels are not stock (from the factory not the dealer) all you need to worry about is whether your Z is as clean and perfect as possible.

The number of mods moves you from class to class but you can enter a lower mod class and then lose because points are deducted because they aren't stock.

Your Z should be entered in Street Mod.
