May 2, 201311 yr comment_422223 Good work there Comhosa! Looks like you are making great progress. I also see a white Z car in the background. Are you a painter by trade or a skilled enthusiast? We look forward to more updates. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46432-1971-rebuild/#findComment-422223 Share on other sites
May 2, 201311 yr Author comment_422233 I am not a painter by trade. The paint job will usually turn out good with focused preparation. I need to get the entire weatherstripping. Is MSA a good kit? May 2, 201311 yr comment_422255 I'd prefer Vintage Rubber kits. They cost a lot but are very good quality. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46432-1971-rebuild/#findComment-422255 Share on other sites
May 2, 201311 yr comment_422270 I got the kit from MSA and have been happy with it. New rubber really makes the car look great. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46432-1971-rebuild/#findComment-422270 Share on other sites
May 2, 201311 yr Author comment_422284 Taz, Do you have issues with the door rubbers not closing correctly from MSA. The windshield and hatch rubbers good fit?The car is 99% rust free, and only surface rust. Preparation took the longest and painting was fast. I used two epoxy primer sprays and sand between paint. Two color sprays, and 4 layers of polyurethane clear coat. Again sanding between coats. Once I'm done installing all the body parts, I will wet sand with 2000 grit sandpaper, then polish. May 2, 201311 yr comment_422293 I'd prefer Vintage Rubber kits. They cost a lot but are very good quality.I have to agree with that, specially for the doors, makes closing them so much easier. May 2, 201311 yr Author comment_422294 I will definitely get a higher quality rubber for doors. MSA windshield and hatch good fit?Im choosing between black dragon and msa for weatherstrip of windshield and hatch only. Any experience between the two. Tks for input Edited May 2, 201311 yr by comhosa Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46432-1971-rebuild/#findComment-422294 Share on other sites
May 2, 201311 yr comment_422299 MSA windshield and Hatch were a good fit. Windshield was done in 2007 and hatch and rear quarter glass done in summer 2012. fits snug as they should. Never had any problems with the door rubber. The only door problems I had was due to worn out / misaligned strikers and the lack of dovetails that guided them into correct positioning. The doors took some time to adjust the way they were hung at each the hinge and striker brackets. Once that was rectified the doors close like new. What section of the rubber is blocking your door from closing properly? The seals on the upper front have tabs that get glued into place below the door panel in a section.
