Posted May 3, 201311 yr comment_422361 i been looking at a r180 with the 3.9 ratio from a 720 truck 4x4 . will it direct bolt in to my70 240z? or do i need new shafts . this one has bolt flanges. i am going with l28 and want to make the best of it. i am going with the 4 speed for now although i have 5speed from a 83 zx . but from what i read i should not use it.?any ideas would be helpful.thanks dan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46446-diff-questions/ Share on other sites
May 3, 201311 yr comment_422365 If you put a 3.9 differential in the car you will need the 83 5-speed, at least on the highway.I cannot answer the question about the halfshafts, but a L28 with the 83 5-speed and a 3.9 differential is pretty much the hot setup for all Nissan parts.Good motoring! May 4, 201311 yr comment_422457 What year is your Z?I have the exact same set up for transmission and diff - it bolted right up, I did replace all the seals. If I were to do it again I would opt for a 4:11 diff. May 4, 201311 yr Author comment_422477 i have a 70 that has a long way to go. i wasnt sure which way to go and this one came up. they are hard to find . i hope that i made the right decison . i went with the 720 because it sounds a lot easier than to have to scource out all the parts for the r200. all said and done the cost was about the same . 4.11 give you more bottom end? is it a direct bolt up? it is a r180? May 4, 201311 yr comment_422504 4:11 will give you more bottom end - be care if you opt that route - some of the sides are pop in and not bolt in - you will need to verify with the seller what type he is selling if you are going to make a purchase.
