saw this sweety on the road today. Im thinking an AMC product? anyone want to tell me what kinda car this is?

Hey Tom, front grill looks like a 510 but the car is too big for a Datsun. The door is original but front quarter panel and rear end look like they have been worked and maybe the roof. Kinda of looks like a Ford Falcon but the Australian market had all kinds of "North American looking" cars that we never got to see. You'll have to go to some local car shows this summer and see if he turns up. Do they still have that big cruise in at CND Tire on Yonge and Davis on Thursdays?

I'm thinking he got this one:

Man... I just looked up the HB Torana. Looks really similar, but the body:pillar ratio is a little off, and the trunk doesn't seem to slope down quite as much... The trunk may seem to be off because the picture is a little crooked.

The Torana doesn't seem to have ever come with separate high and low beam assemblies though, and if it is a Torana, the roof was chopped and lowered. Plus, it has one too many side mirrors.

The headlights don't quite match...

If you blow up the original photo to 400%, you will find that among other modifications made was a change to rectangular headlamps. Back in '72 I was driving a 510 wagon and did a number of double takes after seeing these on the road.

I think the cortina is close, but the bend lines on the side door and body panels are lower than the top of the wheel wells, Im thinking Vauxhall is correct.

Pacemkr, Looking again, you are correct. The Cortina does not have a vent window and the tuck under at the bottom of the doors is more severe in the Cortina.
