Posted May 21, 201311 yr comment_423907 Does anyone know who the manufacturer was for the Receiver/Dryer used with the A-R-A dealer installed A/C system? I believe the original did Not have a switch mounted on top of the Dryer unit like what was used on the 1974 and up Nissan/Datsun installed units. Looks Like I have everything but this item as the Prev owner removed it for a much smaller barrel style in-line Dryer. Does anyone know what unit was used in the Dealer installed kits of 1970-1973? Almost done adding the dealer installed A/C components back to my car for vintage 05/72 240Z but am missing the dryer. Any suggestions. Currently I am installing more for the look and to keep the car as a vintage 1972 appearance and not looking to hook up the Compressor belt for functionality. Does anyone have the correct dryer that they are not using any longer? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46602-a-r-a-ac/ Share on other sites
May 21, 201311 yr comment_423909 I had the ARA unit installed on my '71Z in 1972. No switch on the drier. Dimensions: 6.75" tall not counting the sight glass on top and 2" diameter at the base. There are no engraved markings on the unit and the paper label is toast, although the # 12730 is visible at the top of what's left of the label. Unfortunately, I can't read what it refers to as the 40 year old paper is covered in crud and quite faded.Dennis Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46602-a-r-a-ac/#findComment-423909 Share on other sites
May 21, 201311 yr comment_423910 Got this one. Some cracked plastic as you can see, though. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46602-a-r-a-ac/#findComment-423910 Share on other sites
May 21, 201311 yr Author comment_423911 @Stanley that part is the evaporator mounted under your glove box. I'm talking about the cylinder that mounts to the inner fender that psdenno is referring to. May 21, 201311 yr Author comment_423915 No compressor, no drier, I'm beginning to see why the AC didn't work.that and besides the hoses you would be missing the condenser (mounted in front of the radiator behind the horns.)The compressor from A-R-A was mounted on the passenger side front of the engine by a mounting bracket that wrapped around the front of the engine block. looks like you only have the parts that were mounted inside the car and not the parts under the hood. May 22, 201311 yr Author comment_423967 can anyone confirm if the mounting bracket was similar to the one that holds the coil to the other inner fender but this time used to hold the Dryer vertical? any pictures of the correct dryer and mounting bracket? May 22, 201311 yr comment_423990 Yes, the bracket is similar to the coil bracket and the unit is mounted vertical so you can check the sight glass for flow & bubbles, not horizontal like the coil.Dennis Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46602-a-r-a-ac/#findComment-423990 Share on other sites

Just need to find the dryer. With the previous owner that this car had it's amazing how complete the a/c system actually was. The rest of the car not so much but that's what made this car such a great scavenger hunt. can you tell me if the bracket was bare metal or painted? If I take it to bare metal I'll engine clear coat it to keep the shine. May 22, 201311 yr comment_423994 http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/air-conditioning/standard-receiver-drier-with-push-on-fittings-42.phpThe only problem is finding the right size barbed fitttings. Measure your hose inside diameterand see if they sell your size. Personally i like the hose kits that you can assemble yourselfand add o-rings and better fittings but the old barbs work ok if your hoses are in good conidtion. May 22, 201311 yr comment_423995 The original ARA bracket is made of 3/4 inch wide unpainted galvanized steel. There is a screw hole at each end (rounded ends not square corners) for mounting to the side of the engine compartment and another screw hole at the crest of the arc on the bracket. Not sure why that's there as you wouldn't put a screw into the dryer.Hope that helps with your scavenger hunt.Dennis Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46602-a-r-a-ac/#findComment-423995 Share on other sites
