Posted June 15, 201311 yr comment_425660 The last time I tightened the cam and balancer bolts the engine was on a stand and easy to stop the crank from turning, now its in the car and I need to tighten them up, but not real sure how to do it with just one person, Any suggestions? June 15, 201311 yr comment_425661 Remove the starter and put a flathead screwdriver in a flywheel gear till it locks against the tranny housing. Torque the crank bolt to spec. This obviously takes two people. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46777-tigjtening-the-crank-and-cam-bolt/#findComment-425661 Share on other sites
June 15, 201311 yr comment_425670 Remove a sparkplug and feed in a short length of nylon rope. Torque to spec after the rotating assembly cannot turn. June 15, 201311 yr comment_425682 Just make sure you leave the end of the rope outside the engine, preferably tied to something that doesn't fit through a spark plug hole (like a big washer, or the firewall) :stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/46777-tigjtening-the-crank-and-cam-bolt/#findComment-425682 Share on other sites

June 16, 201311 yr comment_425747 chain wrench around crank pulley.Be carefully with this. If you over stress the rubber layer in the damper you might damage it.
