So I finally got it running, sometimes I have to pull the choke all the way then it starts right up. but it starts to rev really high and I shut it off before it gets to high.(rpm gauge not working so idk how much).. but if I push the choke back in to turns off... then after doing this for a while it starts with the choke pushed in and it started but it also started revving super high to the point where i need to turn off the car. also I'm not opening the throttle at all but, if i do it does rev higher like its suppose to.. it just doesn't idle...please help I feel so close to taking the first drive in her...

How about some closer pics of the carb and the hoses going into it. Are you sure you got the hoses in the correct places? I'm curious about the hose coming off the top of the carb to the valve cover. Seems like full vacuum from the intake on the valve cover?

And as far as the "flat top" carb, it might be the best SU for this application . The flat tops have a separate idle circuit which would be ideal for this turbo set up- which might also be the reason it doesn't idle now.

With a separate idle circuit, you can have the main circuit run rich for pressurization .

So I think I figured it out, i was just relying on the throttle return spring on the carb.

i added another throttle return spring that's hooked on the body and it seems like it worked.

i guess it wasn't shutting the throttle all the way. i only had it running for a little, but it got dark so i have to do more testing tomorrow. I still wanna check the timing does anyone know what it should be set at normally.

As for the vacuum lines not to sure if i got them all correct ill take a closer pic tomorrow of what i got..Also are the two ports on the bottom of the carb for water?

The timing on mine is 10 deg BTDC @ 800rpm for californian spec. and 7 deg BTDC when warm for Fed model. Dont know if that will be optimal setting for your setup, but its a place to start.

You can download a copy of the FSM for your model at XenonS30. It has all the info in the second chapter under ET (Engine Tune).

Timing is probably critical with that turbo charged engine. OEM timing might not be relevant and the OP might find that initial timing is way advanced and mechanical timing has been deactivated .

Pressurizing this motor changes many parameters of tune on this motor. The BIGGEST change will involve timing. Stock timing could be the demise of this motor. I would be not be surprised to see timing at 18-20 degrees PERIOD

Okay so I got her running and took the first drive

But the car is starving for fuel..

I have in visible inline fuel filter right before

It goes in the carb and when the cars on

That filter doesn't fill up I can just see a little

Steam going through I know the carb needs more

Fuel any ideas why it's not filling up.

Also I would think it would get more fuel

If it didnt have a fuel return line

Could I possibly just plug that up or does

The car need it.. Thanks

You need to be more scientific about this.

First, please use punctuation - your posts are difficult to read.

Don't worry about the filter air bubble . They rarely fill all the way up.

You need to make sure the electric pump is working and putting out the volume of fuel it's supposed to. Running a turbo charged motor lean will destroy the motor.

You could disconnect the fuel line at the carb and run the pump to see what comes out and how much.

You need a gauge as suggested.

You might need to take the carb apart and check for cleanliness.

Sorry about the punctuation thing. I'm on a phone so it ends up being one long text. Haha

It's not so much a bubble it's barly dribbling out. Only when I give it throttle, when I stop at idel it almost completely drys up. The electric pump is working, but I don't know if it's strong enough. (Also i had to hot wire it because it would turn on)..& I thought the mechanical pump was supposed to produce most of the fuel when the engines running. I've taken the carb off and cleaned it. I still need to buy a fuel pressure gauge as suggested. Do you think I should just buy another aftermarket electric fuel pump, and regulator? Any other suggestions? Thanks for the Feed back.

I already made the suggestions. Take the fuel line OFF and measure the output into a jar or something. It should amount to at least stock volume , which you need to research and find. The gauge is very important also.

If you aren't careful you will damage the motor by driving this in a lean condition.

You seem to have this narrowed to a fuel condition, so be very thorough looking at that . You would be lucky if that is your only problem .

That set up probably also has a FPR that also has to work properly.

Did you look for the sight glass on the float bowl and the filter screen on the fuel inlet?

The sight glass could help diagnose a fuel delivery issue, and if confirmed, the filter screen could be the cause.

Where exactly is the filter screen? I ran the car with the bottom of the carb off, and the fuel was coming out the the small tube pretty steady. I then pushed the float up and the fuel stopped like its suppose to..
