Outer Rubber Molding for the Side Windows

Healeyalt

Recommended Posts

I need to replace the weather strip molding along the outside of my side windows. Its stapled to the stainless steel trim. After I take the old ones off, what's the best way to attach the new ones? I'm not sure how I'd get staples back in the original holes and curled over on the inside. Is there a good all-weather adhesive I could use or does someone have another suggestion for attaching the new molding?

Thanks

Gary

jfa, Where did you get the squeegee rubber? I want to do this but am not sure where to order the rubber from. This is for a 78/280 coupe. Thanks, JCB

Clearly we have different year models so no guarantee on availability on your car. I actually bought the replacement stainless with squeegee installed from Black Dragon, it is a nice looking part. The replacement does not have the door top curve already in it and rather than fight to warp it into place (and possibly bend it or screw up a new paint job), I opted to transfer the squeegee to my old stainless.

Others on this board have found just the squeegee material elsewhere and may be able to chime in with sources.

jfa, that really helps, thanks. I see Black Dragon has them listed for the 2+2 for around $20 each and so it must just be the squeegee without the stainless. I wonder if you guys with the coupes could order these and cut them to proper length? Unless mounting is totally different.

Thanks Jim A for the response. I looked on BD and I would ask the same thing that Healeyalt is asking. What would be the difference between the 2+2 and the coupe as far as the rubber portion is concerned? I feel sure that he is correct about the metal portion not included for the 2+2 item. Difference in cost is substantial. Anyone? Thanks, JCB

Not having a 2+2 at hand for comparison - if the squeegee length is the same for both models then you both are probably right. The squeegee-only option was not offered when I bought mine. Perhaps you guys can compare notes on your respective squeegee length and answer the question. Given the price, I suspect you are right it does not have the stainless.
