Black Pearl Registry

Bruce,

You can go to the ZHome.com website. There is a link on the left called 'Z Car Registers'. On that page, there is a link for 'Classic and Collectible Z Car Owners' under which you can register the Black Pearl. Way back, I originally contributed the write up on the 1978 DATSUN 280Z Black Pearl Edition on ZHome.org. The link is located on the left toward the bottom under 'Production & Sales History'.

Ironically, the only Black Pearl that I owned was a rotted out parts car. It was a shame, but it yielded $100's in parts for my Z and for a few others on this forum. You should take a bunch of pics of your Z for an Album in the Gallery. It would be nice to see some Black Pearls.

The original link on the Z Car Home Page aka ZHome.com is no longer there.

The Black Pearl Register was started/maintained by Ross Williams - but a few years ago he decided that he could no longer spend the time with it. Unlike some of the other Z Car Registers - it was always a private register, that is to say that it was not published to the public.

So at this point, I don't know of any other...

Andrew,

I did look at the ZHome site a while ago but saw that only 240Z's could register. Once I get the image down sizing thing figured out w/my new MacBook, I'll post that album. I see that your join date was the same mo/yr as when I acquired my BPE/SAP (my 2nd Z).

Carl,

I'm thinking that this was his e-mail?

(rwilliams@cognizant.com)

So you're the infamous Carl Beck?? And Andrew, you're the honest to goodness Andrew Streckfuss??

Wow, I feel honored & lucky. The only one missing on this thread is Byron.

You guys did a 'very' good job with the write-up of the Black Pearl Edition. I'm curious though,...you guys mention that the color was a test market device to determine if it should be added to the color pallet of Z cars. The guy I bought the car from (Reggie Kitchens) told me that up until then (1977), black cars were reserved for Japanese royalty only & that Mr. K had a hell of a time trying to convince the big guys @ Nissan/Japan to make an exception but was successful...& hence, the Black Pearl Z was born. Any of you ever hear this

Edit:

Oh, btw...I'm kinda surprised Ross didn't offer up the registry to one of you guys. Those who don't want their name shown publicly can have their names left out on the public side of things.

Haven't maintained the Black Pearl registry in many years but still own my '78 Black Pearl. Bringing it to the upcoming National Convention in Nashua, NH. Every now and then I google "Datsun Black Pearl" and just happened to come across this thread! :)
