v12horse Posted February 27, 2005 Share #41 Posted February 27, 2005 I have been reading this thread, and it seems like my problem would fall under here. My 260z has been having starting problems in the cold. It takes a while to start it, but if finally does. This only happens when it is really cold out. I have a new battery, alternator, voltage regulator, and the gas is getting to the engine fine. The carbs are in tune. I took it to the shop because the battery went dead, but only as much as it would not turn the starter motor over; everything else worked. This was after installing a new battery, and the mechanic charged the battery and he could not find anything wrong. He thinks that the battery was not charged properly since that battery has to be trickle charged for a day, and it was not from a store. However, the car did get an oil change, but I am not sure what type of oil it was. I have been driving the car for a little over a week now, everyday and the only problem I have been having is starting it. Does this seem like an electrical problem to anyone? It had a tune up not too long ago, and the battery cables are fine. I also noticed that when the engine is turned off the Amp meter registers right down the middle. When I start the car it goes toward the +60, but only a little bit. The gauge also moves when the blinkers are on. Always towards the +, but not by much. When I rev up the engine while stopped, I notice that the lights get a little brighter. Am I being overly paranoid, or do I have something to worry about? I am going to get one of the test lights tomorrow at Kragen to see if there is current being drawn somewhere.-Ben
Bambikiller240 Posted February 27, 2005 Share #42 Posted February 27, 2005 Just to recap:The starter cranks the engine over with out running out of power, right? It just takes a while for the engine to finally get started running on it's own? It sounds more like a carb problem to me, Ben. Choke nozzles, or cables not adjusted good maybe. Amp gauge operation seems normal for an early Z car IMOJMO
