Gentlemen, Recently picked up a new build from someone that has passed away, (limited info on engine)Bold stamped E88 on head) engine builder said steel guides and street cam, F54 block with flat top, all components in engine new, had triple webers but were sold before i bought engine, Any idea of plugs and gap, thoughts on carbs, my belief is 9.4 to 10.5 compression, any suggestions or comments, thanks always James

The E88 head came out somewhere in june 71 in the series II 240Z with the P30 L24 block and changed to the N42 when they went to the 280Z L28 block in march 75.

All the engines had flat top pistons except the last of the L26 (I think it was jun 74 to feb 75) which had 7.09cc dished pistons for emmisions.

Nice purchase. The F54 is a good block

The problem with the E88 is that they made extensive changes along the way but retained the code E88. I beleive there are four versions. The first two are mostly port runner improvement, but the last two are emmision heads with emmision chambers. The last one having the larger exhaust valve for the L26.

The compression ratio started at 9.1:1 with the first head and ended at 8.2:1 in the L26.

Looking at your descrition, he built a F54 for the P79 head (uses flat tops) and put a E88 head on it. Can you get more info over the head. Like was it origanally on a L26. That would narrowit down a lot.

I dont think it will be 10.5:1 but 9.4:1 is quiet possable with the larger bore and the "right" E88 head.

thanks for the info Chas, seem the E88 has many different answers, I am hoping for the best, the origanal builder is gone but he spent a fortune on carbs, intakes and headers, every component on engine is new, if i could get the compression you spoke of i would be a verry happy camper, thanks always, James
