Gentlemen, Recently picked up a new build from someone that has passed away, (limited info on engine)Bold stamped E88 on head) engine builder said steel guides and street cam, guessing other work in head by out of the box apperance, F54 block with flat tops, all components in engine new, had triple webers but were sold before i bought engine, Any idea of plugs and gap, thoughts on carbs, my belief is 9.4 to 10.5 compression, any suggestions or comments, thanks always James

Is the engine complete except for carbs and plugs, or is it a long-block and a head, or was it running before someone took the carbs? Why do you think 9.4 - 10.5 CR?

Just wondering. There's not really much informative in your description. Street cam, other head work, steel guides (probably meant steel seats). Did you talk to the builder? Or buy it from the builder? E88 head on an L28 block is a little bit restrictive unless the builder installed bigger valves.

Get a specific list from the engine builder if you can.

If your running electronic ignition- just get the plugs and gap them for later model L motor- probably .042-.044

Carbs- well you just can't hardly go wrong with some good running SU's to get things rolling and later you can unleash the power of some triples.

Depends on your budget, carb savy and patience level- LOL

I wish mine was a 54 block. You also have to remember that there are 3 different versions of the e88 head. There really isn't a way to differentiate from the outside. It could make a big difference on how the motor runs.

Too bad you don't have more info.

You are always welcome to drop me a line

really wish I new the builder, yes engine was running with triples and sounded great, custumer that races bought from funeral home then pulled engine and dropped chevy motor in for racing, sold all parts, i have complete engine except carbs, intake and header, race engine shop in Gainesville, Florida said street came and steel valve inserts, i really know nothing on this except previous owner spent a fortune on carbs, electronics and exhaust, hoping he did the same on engine, thanks James
