Can LHD drive in Australia?

Anyone know if a LHD 240z is legal to drive in Australia? Can you drive LHD cars around there?

Sure. If they are older than 30 years you don't have to convert them or get special rego. Not too sure about newer cars though I have seen some newish Mustangs and such with LHD

Okay, I see. Similar with smog-inspections and stuff here. Over a certain age.. they don't have to comply with the new laws.

Not totally sure if it can be done on full rego, over here in SA, they're having a big crack down, especially on LHD converted cars, cos some of the mustang mororns were using a bike chain system to get the steering wheel from one side of the car to the other :stupid:

Correct. We call them ADR's here. You love them if you own an old car and hate them if you own a new car and wish to modify it.

I don't follow. They are cracking down on the converted cars or the LHD cars? What is full rego?

I think what he's trying to say is they are cracking down on poorly converted cars where they've used a chain type conversion. Not on original LHD cars.

Full rego means full car registration. State laws vary like over in the US and some states (namely South Australia) might not allow LHD to be fully road registered. This will leave you with club rego only allowing you to drive your car during club events.:mad: This sounds a bit harsh to me and I doubt it's the case.

Ozzy Guy, Club rego in South Australia permits you to drive your car for 90 days of the year, be it a club run, or a nice run through the twisty bits. THere are no restrictions on the use, other than a max of 90 days, filled in by a logbook (requires honesty, but the penalty for cheating is harsh)

Thanks for the link. Looks like VIC is more slack about this. You can register and drive it normally if the car is greater than 30 years old.
