April 11, 20186 yr comment_547116 Yes you can spay with carb cleaner and brush away carbon. The plugs clean themselves in the engine once you get it running and normal fuel flow. You can buy a spark plug cleaner if you want: https://www.harborfreight.com/pneumatic-spark-plug-cleaner-32860.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/47304-1972-float-adjustment/?&page=47#findComment-547116 Share on other sites
April 11, 20186 yr comment_547126 Welcome to the world of "I wish I know what the hell I did to fix it." That's why I like to change one thing and then test. I had to learn it the hard way too. Congratulations. Drive it and let us know how it's doing after a few days so we can start the celebration. April 11, 20186 yr comment_547127 Ill drive it tonight again. I just dumped those fouled plugs in the trash. Questions: 1. How many times can you clean the spark plugs with a brass brush until they become useless? 2. Being stuck on traffic jams always fouls the plugs? April 11, 20186 yr comment_547129 @jalexquijano OK, now that I've primed my brain with coffee it's started functioning. After installing new plugs and using DeOxit did you start it without the choke? I'd like to hear about your start-up and warm-up procedure on this trial. April 29, 20186 yr comment_548238 Tested the car today. 2 to 3 mins with choke on. Nice aceleration. No backfire on the intake or through the exhaust. I guess those ngk bp6es former plugs were damaged and even cleaning them with brass brush wouldnt help. I took some pics of the plugs for your approval on the mixture knobs turns. Right now i am at 3.5 turns clockwise both. Any need of readjusting the floats? Lowering the floats more? April 29, 20186 yr comment_548240 Looks lean. Go to 4.5 turns down and leave floats alone. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/47304-1972-float-adjustment/?&page=47#findComment-548240 Share on other sites
April 29, 20186 yr comment_548248 Glad to hear it's running better. Can you confirm that it was driven for a while with the choke off after it warmed up. I agree with Philip. Leave the floats alone and drop the nozzles 1 turn. More pics of the plugs after you readjust. April 30, 20186 yr comment_548276 You want me to drop them to 4 turns clockwise? Isnt it too much? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/47304-1972-float-adjustment/?&page=47#findComment-548276 Share on other sites

The right amount will ultimately be determined by plug color and good running condition Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/47304-1972-float-adjustment/?&page=47#findComment-548279 Share on other sites

Four turns down would be wrong for a stock engine. We're trying to get a little more color (tan) on the plugs. Drop the nozzles another 1/2 - 1 turn (your choice) and take another pic of the plugs after you've warmed it up and taken it for a test run. Idle mixture knobs set to 3.75 turns clockwise front and rear. May 6, 20186 yr comment_548805 @jalexquijano The plugs still don't have much color but that could be caused from the gasoline in Panama. "They" tell me that the gas formula now is not the same as "the good old days". How well does the engine run when cold, warming up and at speed? Any complaints?
