Recommended Posts

Looking for some help with my Z:

1973 240 automatic, Weber DGV carbs

Idles on the choke only. Will start with the choke off but dies within a few seconds.

Replaced bad HG

New valve cover, intake and exhaust gasket

Drained fuel

Changed fuel filter

New spark plugs

new oil, filter and coolant

Changed what vacuum lines where left (most of the emission stuff was gone)

Checked for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner, didn't find anything

Compression looks OK

Distributor is not locked down, wires to the thermostat are cut

Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Thanks!

Has it ever run right for you with these carbs? Or said another way is it a new problem or is this how you got the car? If it is a new problem I would check: fuel pressure, clean fresh fuel, dirt in float bowls. If it is an old problem I would check these same after I cleaned the carbs....the new fuel does not store well and may have gummed up the idle jets...

I got the car with the carbs and this problem. It took starter spray to get it to run at all when i first got it. It starts faster and idles a little smother now on choke. Any suggestion on where to find a manual for these carbs. I have looked around but nothing so far.
