Posted October 13, 201311 yr comment_433659 Engine is out, bay is pretty naked, fenders off, and I'm pre-repaint. I have the urethane bushing kit and plan on getting Eibach lowering springs and Tokico Blues. What bushings should I install before repainting the bay and putting everything back in?And, would it make the job considerably easier to do struts/springs while the engine is out as well? Thanks,Kai Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/47702-bushing-springs-and-struts-before-or-after-re-assembly/ Share on other sites
October 14, 201311 yr comment_433707 I've never had to opportunity to monkey with suspension with the engine out, but I did bushings and struts with the engine in place and I don't see how having it apart would help any. October 14, 201311 yr comment_433708 I put in the urethane bushings while the motor was out, I took the steering rack out and greased and painted it and put new accordion boots on. The steering rod coupler gets new ones too. Never done it before but it seemed easier not having to work around the header and A/C compressor. My biggest help was a small bottle jack for the tie rod ends and the TC bars, it holds things in place while you put the washer and nuts on. They go on from the bottom. October 14, 201311 yr comment_433721 You can completely rebuild and assemble the front suspension off the car then install it as a single unit while the engine is out. Use a floor jack to slowly raise it to position as you get the T/C rods and strut tops into position. I was able to do this single-handed but it is certainly a bit easier with another person to help. October 14, 201311 yr comment_433722 I noticed that you did not use any strut boots or did I miss something. Just wondering??
