Welcome aboard! If you need some work done or technical advice, Soren Loree in Albuquerque is a good resource. He runs Miata Specialists (810 Arno St NE, 505/344-9560) and has done historic racing with Z cars.

Thanks so much jmor! now that I'm registered here in the forum...the next step is finding other Z enthusiasts nearby...I appreciate the beta.

I was able to track down the 2nd owner (I am the 4th) who had the car restored in the 80's. He sent me three dozen pics of the original restoration and is going to give me the original steering wheel which he had kept as a memento!

He said he thought the later vented hood was better for overall ventilation and that the rear hatch vents were no good because they sometimes sucked in exhaust fumes.

My car is going to paint/body next week, but here are some additional pics of the current state:
