'73 240Z that I probably will have to sell

Hello folks. I am a new member, and this is my second '73 Z since I was 16. I adore this car. Its tight, clean and soldi. I have done a great deal of suspension replacement and interior replacement in the past 5 months. However, its becoming increasingly clear that my income and demands cannot keep up with my desire to restore this car. I love my work, but I only bring in $17,000 on a good year. The car is my only car, and driving it every day, and trying to restore it on my income it just not possible it seems. Its a great Z. I guess, I am going to start getting some feedback from folks as to what the car might be worth. I am happy to send shots, and list the work done and the condition of the vehicle if anyone cares to give their input. Any suggestions, advice, or comments are highly welcomed.

Hey Billy,

Sorry to hear your delema. Too bad you can't park it somewhere safe for a while until you can enjoy it. Anyway if you want a decent estimate you have to be more specific on the condition and what work has been done.

Well, I am seeing that the value on Z's varies GREATLY! Different things are important to different folks. Anyway, I will attempt to tell all I know about this one with the hopes that some of you might give your opinion of what I might get out of it if sold.

The car was purchased 7 months ago from a Nissan Service Tech. Has all the records on it. All receipts. It has A/C, '72 carbs, 280-Z 5speed, and 233,000 miles, with a total engine rebuilding at 198,000 miles. The car has had some body work, but not a huuuuuuuge amount from what I can tell. I did repair some small rust holes on the rails and then some considerable rust in the floor pans. To me, repair, and not replacement is acceptable work. I removed the rusted areas. coated the pans with zinc, then coated with POR sealer paint, then plenty of fiberglass mat, then POR again. Inside and out. Then the floors were covered with heat shield insulation pads and new OEM carpets and monogrammed floor matts.

The car needs the usual surface bodywork, a new paint job, and some little rust spots taken care of. Some new weatherstripping and some electrical work on a few dash lights. The dash has one crack, and has been covered with a radar detector and base. It has a front spoiler, side skirts and rear skirt. Ansa exhaust. 14" aluminum wheels.

Now for the rest of the work I have put in. The car has new rear struts, new differential mount, new urethane control arm bushings, new spindle pins and urethane bushings, new urethane strut spacers and strut insulator caps. Has new clutch, pressure plate, master and slave cylinders. New armrests, and new rear interior panels. New mahogany steering wheel and shift knob, and leather shift boot. New bra. New power antenna. New Aiwa CD Stereo with 4 Rockwell speakers. Needs some new weatherstripping and a few small dings in the bumpers... nothing bad though. Runs like a top and hardly uses any oil at all.

Anyway, hope that helps folks with their guestimates of what they would say the car is valued at. If you have an opinion of what the car might be worth, please let me know. If I can get back an amount close to what I have in it, I will probably have to sell this car.

Dang, that suck about your problem well anyways, about your rough estimate on the cost of selling. How much have you invested? That's a lot of money you put into it. There was one guy selling a Z in a classified for 19,500 in california his car wasn't done as good as your, but he also failed to get some rust off the frame. If it was almost gone with a few more things to do you could problably sell it for just as much, but I don't know if anyone would buy it. People do look for Z to fix up, but there are a few that are looking for a Z that needs a few more things before it becomes complete. Anyways, you should get a few more estimates on the car before you take my word for it because this is just my two cents.:D
