October 29, 201311 yr comment_434799 I agree. I hate the way the new Google works and their new algorithms are playing havoc with website search results. I also despise having to click twice to get to maps, finance or news versus the one click before. That is not progress. I agree with Bart that it could be the NSA...C Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/47823-google-is-getting-even-dumber/?&page=2#findComment-434799 Share on other sites
October 30, 201311 yr comment_434820 You'r to good for this world if you think that big industrialists don't work together with intelligence companies...They are all in the same money train. In the end it's all about money and control. October 30, 201311 yr comment_434823 Hey all the search engines about 20 years a go started cutting out search tools. Before that I could make searches that just gave me the information I want. Also do not get me going about searches over 5-7 words what they did then as to now, or searches with 2-3 long words (like scentific names of several trees when looking for a study or relationship between them). Blue you sound like me about 20 years a go. October 30, 201311 yr Author comment_434830 I hear ya. With all the crap on the net now, filters are required in searches unless you want to wade through pages of junk. Google used to let me have up to 100 hits on one page but now they cut it back to 10 forcing me to go through about 3 pages of ad related hits before getting to useful data. I have a Honda S2000.... try searching useful info on that with all the gangsta honda kids' data clots. Boolean operators are a must as a minimum but when the search engines start ignoring them and forcing ads in the hits..... the internet is dead. Google used to explicitly allow the searching of data on just one site but now they are watering that down. That is what got me mad. I remembered putting a pic up of a rotted thermostat housing so I explicitly searched this site for "rot" but the first hits were for rottweiller and roti. btw I first saw the de-evolution of searching with Kijiji (An Ebay owned classified site). I searched the automobile section for honda S2000 and hundreds of hits like 2000 pontiac or 2000 acura would return... digging through ~ 10 to 20 of the hits and I may see an actual Honda S2000 with "honda S2000" as the caption!!! Similarly, searching "weber" returns over a hundred hits with "web".... yes the search engine is so smart it can read your mind and assume you only wanted to search the first syllable. No boolean either. The world is getting dumber or I am getting smarter but I am smart enough to know I am not getting smarter. (I am a little dangerous like Baddog ) Maybe I should throw in the towel and do this: <s>Blue</s> now Red dawg Edited October 30, 201311 yr by Blue Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/47823-google-is-getting-even-dumber/?&page=2#findComment-434830 Share on other sites
October 30, 201311 yr comment_434831 I used to have a sales chick from Google visit my company last year. She kept promising me golden mountains in the search results, but in the end I asked what price am I looking at, and those where 2 to 3 k figures a year !. She didn't knew I did programming in the past, and knew all about website ranking , and my website is allready found really good in Google many times as the top result Anyhow it was fun talking to a sales robot. October 30, 201311 yr comment_434849 eBay doesn't use Boolean any more either. Instead of "OR" they use ( ) with comma separators. And they don't use "*" as a wildcard either, making it much more difficult to find things. To BUY. They've made it more difficult to make them money. The funny thing is that you can't easily find the Search Help instructions on eBay, I had to use Google's search engine to find out how to use eBay's search function. It's a weird circle. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/47823-google-is-getting-even-dumber/?&page=2#findComment-434849 Share on other sites

October 31, 201311 yr comment_434889 One that I liked to use was the "-" to subtract words. I have a Revco Fridge from the 50's that I was looking for information on, do you know how many commercial fridges I get for research labs, I don't think information on a freezer that can go to -30 F is going to help. What about searches for 240Z stuff, how many things do we get for 240SX. Even stuff they did to separate sites they can't even do that right .com (Mike no affiance) is for commercial sites, org for organizations and so on. You know how much that would help reduce sorting sites when you are looking to buy something or to get information. Blue the world is only as smart and the dumbest person, and boy are they dumb.
