Posted February 21, 200322 yr comment_27381 Well I finally got my triple Dellortos on my car and now for tuning. I need to modify my syncro tool a bit so I get a tight seal, but I need to know what venturies and jets to use. The car is my daily driver and is used mainly on the freeway. Here is a list of the things that the motor does:-wont idle-stutters off the line-wont hold a constant rpm (starts stuttering and rpms start falling off)-dies when I let off the throttle like when exiting the freeway and acts like it is flooded out.The truth be known, I dont know where to start. I know very little about these things, but I am looking for a book on tunning them right. March 13, 200322 yr comment_29630 I too just bought tripple dellorto's (40DHLA's). i bought the "how to build and powertune your weber and dellorto dcoe and dhla carburators" from amazong. GOOD READ!!! i would definatly buy it for you. plenty of tuning advice and hints... also, as far as parts go, check out www.cbperformance.com out in california... they have the parts, but they specialize in volkswagon sand rails. just be sure to buy the DHLA and not the DRLA parts. they are grouped together allot on their page...T.J. March 15, 200322 yr comment_29823 just dug out 17-year-old records for you guys, hope this helps; after several dyno runs I had settled on:mainchoke 32mm main jet 140air jet 200em tube .5 pump jet 50 (45 almost as good)idle 50/.1this was on a 280 engine with 288 degree cam, .33 lift, compression ratio around 10:1 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4791-tuning-my-new-triples/#findComment-29823 Share on other sites
March 15, 200322 yr comment_29906 Probably the ideal thing would be to hopefully find a local expert on your carbs and see what advice you could gleen from him, or if you have the money, take the car to him. Trying to find out the ideal jetting for triples can get quite expensive if you're playing a guessing game. I have triple Webers, live at high altitude(6500 feet) and have a severe bog when quickly opening the throttle from idle. Finally found a local expert on these carbs and he told me what i suspected: I will have to live with the bog unless I replace my stock cam with a higher performance cam. He saved me alot of unnecessary expense. Good luck. March 15, 200322 yr comment_29930 well I'm glad I don't live at 6500 feet in the air, but just in case everyone contemplating triples thinks that they are going to have this problem;the best thing about the side-draughts is actually their throttle response, much crisper than the SUs ever can be, due to the "water -pistols" i.e. accelerator pumps, whose job it is to squirt a bit of gas down the intake manifold when you jump on the throttle. You wil need to experiment with pump jets and pump-rod stroke to get this right. tanny was right about the swapping of jets getting expensive, so try to find a dyno shop that carry a range of jets for your carb.Under normal conditions, you shouldnt have to live with flat spots, stagger, etc - yet so many guys run the carbs as they bought them and accept such penalties as part of owning a "hot" car .
