Sorry Ed I have to disagree with that statement.

Firstly, on every zed I've owned it was generally around the middle.

Secondly, I wouldn't trust any zed gauge as they all have there own idiosycrancies.

Check for a sludge buildup around the sensor, that can and will affect the reading.

The only positive method is to use a direct reading probe to verify what temp your coolant is and cross reference that with what your gauge shows.

I do agree that each guage has there own idiosycrancies. And the only way to know for sure would be to use the direct probe.

But like you said most Zed's run around the middle. Which should be around the "E" & "M".

I have been experimenting with different thermostats. I've used a 160 degree, a 195 and currently a 180. The gauge definitely reflects the difference. With the 180 degree t-stat installed the needle is almost vertical just a little left of center.
