February 21, 200322 yr comment_27454 Operating temps should be around 180-190 degrees F. On your temp guage it should point between the "E" and the "M". February 21, 200322 yr comment_27481 Sorry Ed I have to disagree with that statement.Firstly, on every zed I've owned it was generally around the middle.Secondly, I wouldn't trust any zed gauge as they all have there own idiosycrancies.Check for a sludge buildup around the sensor, that can and will affect the reading. The only positive method is to use a direct reading probe to verify what temp your coolant is and cross reference that with what your gauge shows. February 22, 200322 yr comment_27519 I do agree that each guage has there own idiosycrancies. And the only way to know for sure would be to use the direct probe. But like you said most Zed's run around the middle. Which should be around the "E" & "M". February 23, 200322 yr comment_27605 Funny thing that Nissan did, if you notice...the ideal H2O temp, oil press, amp reading, and fuel load puts all of the guages in a straight up and down position. February 23, 200322 yr comment_27646 Strange thing occured, whilst I knew what Ed meant ""between the "E" and the "M"."".It wasn't until I actually looked at my gauges and realised there was no E or M.Is this something that only exists in LHD zeds? February 24, 200322 yr comment_27672 I don't know if it's a LHD thing, on mine it says "T E M P" along the top of the guage. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4803-operating-temp-71-240z-hls-30/#findComment-27672 Share on other sites
February 24, 200322 yr comment_27679 That having the needle straight up or down thing... that is a old racing trick. The NASCAR boys still do that today, even with the remote control monitoring, they turn the gages so all the needles are vertical when all is ok.Makes it easy to spot a problem. February 24, 200322 yr comment_27739 I have been experimenting with different thermostats. I've used a 160 degree, a 195 and currently a 180. The gauge definitely reflects the difference. With the 180 degree t-stat installed the needle is almost vertical just a little left of center.Cheers,Jim Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4803-operating-temp-71-240z-hls-30/#findComment-27739 Share on other sites
