Georgia on my mind

Hello mates

It looks as if in the near future I will be moving down to Georgia - Savannah to be exact - for a job. A couple questions, any thing I need to know about registering my Z down there? Do they do emissions? Anything I need to know about keeping a Z (and maybe a 620 later on) down south.

Thanks

Jan

not sure if or how this would affect you, but four years ago i ran into problems trying to buy a z in georgia.

for vehicles older than a certain age, georgia did not require a title to register a vehicle, nor did they issue a new printed title when the vehicle was sold. according to their laws the only title is the original piece of paper that came with the vehicle when it first sold. lose it and you're s.o.l.

without a valid title my home state would not allow me to register the vehicle (without additional research and verification). result, the seller was stuck with the car until he could find a local buyer.

so the moral to the story might be to hang onto your current printed title.

In Savannah (or anywhere except Metro Atlanta) you won't have emissions. When you register the vehicle you will pay a 6.75% tax based on the value of the vehicle. They value my 73 at $100, so that shouldn't be bad. If you have a title in Arizona, that should be all you need to get it titled and registered in Georgia. It is optional to title a 1963-1985 vehicle. More at http://motor.etax.dor.ga.gov/motor/TitleSection/ts_NeedAGATitle.aspx.

Don't you want to know about moving to Georgia? It's not Arizona. They got skeeters and snakes and tings that make weird noise in the night.

I used to live in Florida so I'm not expecting anything new, minus more rain as we get something like 8" all year here. Thanks mates for the replies, will let you all know how things go.

Thanks

Jan, just to be clear, even in the Atlanta area, there are no smog checks on vehicles more than 25 years old. Six years ago, I did not have any issues with getting a Georgia title on my 73. I bought the 74 here, and I had no issues with getting the Georgia title transferred into my name.

HSR puts on some nice vintage racing events at Road Atlanta and in the Savannah area. Some guys came up to Carrollton from Savannah for Z Nationals, too. The Z club in the Savannah area seems pretty active. They hosted the national convention in 2010.

Good luck with your move.

As Steve said, no emissions needed. Make sure you have a bill of sale to show ownership. Titles aren't always required in GA as in other states, but will help when registering.

And get ready for thr humidity. AZ may be hot, but it's a dry hot. 93 degrees and 98% in GA humidity feels hotter than 110 in AZ.
