I've noticed recently that sellers are charging shipping plus import custom fees. who gets this money? when ever I had bought in the U S the Canadian post office charges these fees if applicable. most times I've never had to pay customs. another thing, I only buy if shipped united states postal service.

Seller can not collect these. The receiving govt. does as they are import, not export fees.

UPS and FedEx do their own brokering and rip everyone off with brokering fees (filling out a form or two is all they do). The Post office in Canada eventually got into it and started charging a $5 fee if they had to charge duty. Most auto parts (if not all) are duty free and you just have to pay tax.

As well, I too have noticed that this "import fee" is showing up on e-bay items. I have found the best place to order parts from is Rockauto as the price that is paid when you checkout is all that you will end up paying. I will not order from many US sources for parts because they only ship UPS and I hate getting ripped off by a brokeage bill a week or so after recieving the order.

I tried to order from blacldragon, but they use UPS. I thought he was joking when he quoted $160 to ship a brake master cylinder.

Rockauto dit it for $42 using USPS. I have to be careful ordering from Rockauto because they sometimes send from several warehouses and that send the shipping costs up a lot.

I pay import duties here via the shipping company. Never the seller.
